Just purchased a corvette servo online to install on my 02 Avalanche. Was going to install it this weekend but showed it to my dad first who was a GM transmission tech for several years. He thinks what I have isn't going to benefit anything; thinks it needs a bigger spring or something else, can't remember exactly what all he said. Anyways, below is a pic ofeverything that came in the package. Am I missing some pieces? If not can somebody explain to me how this actually works when installed? My dad tends to talk down to me like I'm an idiot when it comes to any vehicle mods so he wasn't much help.

I installed this on my 04' Sierra and there was a noticable difference in the shifting from 1-2. I believe it works because the plate is larger and therefore has more fluid pushing against it. Someone else will chime in I'm sure that knows more about the technical operation of it.

is that the same pieces that you had or do you remember? the 2 black rings seem like flimsy plastic crap.

The one on the left is stock and the right is the vette servo. The way I understand it, the outer ring of the bottom peices is what applies 2nd gear. As you can see, the outer surface is larger on the vette servo which helps make the 1-2 shift firmer and hold 2nd better. I installed it in mine and can definitely feel that the shift is firmer, but not neck-breaking. Also, I have read that it is good insurance to keep 2nd gear from slipping and going out due to the increased holding force
EDIT: Sorry guys I had them switched, left is stock and right is vette

get your vette servo from oregon performance transmission or probuilt automatics. check ebay: oregon performance transmission.
IMO it should of been put in all 4L60E's from the factory.
get a transgo sk shift kit to fix the sloppy shifting also.

looks like a 4th gear servo.

If you flip them over they will. Your pic is of one side and the other pic is the opposite side.

I know that much haha. The opening just doesn't look that big on the one I have compared to the one am92 posted. So you think I do have the correct part?

Its hard to judge a dimension from pics, but it looks like other servo kits.

Ahhh, now we're talking. Part I have does look like that. Does anybody by chance have the part # just to verify? Mine has A74907B on it, but the packaging has 77772B on it.

Also, if you flip over the piece in the upper right corner of am92's photo, the inner ring opening.........on the piece I have it has several metal burs on it; not very clean smooth surface. I'm assuming I should take a grinder to that and clean up the surface of it, or does it not affect anything?

I wouldn't take a grinder to it, but if you want to gets the burrs off you could use a file. When I did mine, the pin had some burrs on it so I couldn't quite pull it out but i filed it down just enough to work

Hit 100k miles fri night so went ahead and serviced the trans yesterday. While I had it on the lift I went ahead and installed the vette servo. First reactions..... It'll take some getting used to. Not really much firmer that I can tell, just the fact that it goes up to 3000 rpm before shifting now instead of 2000 is the only real noticeable change.

you must of done something wrong if its shifting at the wrong rpms.

Hmm, don't know what the deal is then. I followed the write-up that is on here. Guess I'll have to pull it out and check it and reinstall. Can I buy just the blue seal by itself? I doubt I'll be able to salvage the one thats on there when I pull it out. I had to cut the one on the stock servo when pulling it. Anybody else had any issues on this install or am I the only idiot here? I read on here that a few guys didnt get the snap ring on good and it popped off, but I know thats not the issue.

You will HAVE to cut it, I tried to pull mine without cutting it but there wasn't a chance in hell.

I went to a local transmission shop and they gave one to me for free.

And no you're not the only one, I forgot to do one of the most important things (the spring). That's why I had to take mine back out

I didn't drive it like that at all though...who knows what would've happened...

Your install shouldnt change the shift points and should give you just a little increase in shift firmness. Make sure you get the snap ring fully seated, you could ruin your trans case if its not.

No transmission shops around here; only dealerships. Guess I'll have to give the stealership a try. I took it for a drive around the block again and it seems like it's the 2nd to 3rd shift that it'll run up to 3000 rpm before shifting. Sucks, I gotta track down a new seal before I can even mess with it.

I hear ya Kemble, didn't think it should have. I double checked the snap ring before lowering the truck on the lift because I knew that was a common issue w/ this install. I'm looking through the write-up trying to figure out where I might of went wrong now.

don't know if this is related, if so how but I had the battery unhooked for a little bit while messing w/ my radio and that evening when I went to drive home the truck is shifting fine now. That's the only thing that I've done to the truck since the issue w/ the shifting. I can feel the shift firmness. So I dunno what happened, but it was fine yesterday evening, and still go today.

your probably fine then. when you disconnected the battery it erased the adaptive learn memory. it took a few drive cycles to relearn.(especially your idle, shifting)
