I did some looking on this forum and others and I think I have my plan down on painting the engine bay while my engine is out. 1 engine degreaser and a scrub brush then wash. 2 really good scuffing with red scotch pads. 3 rub it down with acetone. Now should I prime or will engine paint stick good to it without priming? There is no rust so that's why I didn't know if priming is needed.

What exactly are you painting? The firewall? If so regular paint is all you need, no need to spend the extra on engine paint, and as long as you don't have a ton of bare metal spots then priming isn't needed. Just a good cleaning before and after sanding with a good wax/oil remover and you're good to go.

I am going to paint the firewall, frame and everything I can with the engine out. I'm taking off the easy stuff and covering the booster. I figured with all the heat regular paint wouldn't hold up.
