Got the kit, had my mechanic (friends dad) install the kit. So he installed it and had issues. I came to a conclusion that he was stomped by it because I think he cannot figure it out. Anyway he explained this to me.

The transmission shifts 1-2-3-4. When in any gear you get it up in rpms and let off the gas, the engine does not decelerate on its own like normal (engine braking). Also for some reason reverse slips really bad. So, for anyone who might have an idea, can you please let me know what the issue could possibly be.

I would like to mention I have a lockup style converter. Hughes 22-25 (2500 stall). I was told I need a switch to manually switch the lockup when shifting 2-3, 3-2. Is there any way to eliminate this as well? Must I switch this, will it hurt the trans? Is there some sort of automated switch that you can install?

If this is too difficult to fix, I may just get a rebuilt 700r4 and go that route. This truck has given me problems since day one, although I love it, I hate it. :)

Thanks!

Sounds like the kit was installed incorrectly to me. Maybe your mechanic isnt an Automatic transmission go to kinda guy.

Yes, he did do something incorrect. I am aware of that. Does anyone have any suggestions? Would I be better off with a 700r4? Will I get full control of the transmission if i shift the 700r4 manually? ( I have a ratchet shifter installed).

being that reverse is slipping I would look at the plate that has the three 8mm bolts that is at the rear of the trans, make sure those bolts were tightened to 10ft lbs also check the instalation of the reverse boost valve....being you have no engine breaking there is a leak also in the overun circuit not allowing the the overum clutches to come on...however in 4th there should be no engine breaking. do you have engine breaking in manual low?

also you do not want the converter to lock through shifts if you do you will break the input drum.

Probably just gonna sell the truck and start over with something in the far future. Might have to part ways :(

I may decide to try and fix this. I am looking at options. This is what I really want though:
What I would like is a fully manual truck with the 4l60e without flipping a switch. How do I go about this without changing the torque converter, and sticking with the 4l60e with fully manual valvebody?

Suggestions, ideas, anything. Help please.!
