My 4L60E in my 95 K1500 is starting to slip badly. My brother has a 93 4L60E stored in my garage. I have heard that the 93 and 95 4L60E transmissions are different. Is it possible to put a 93 transmission into a 95 K1500? If so, what changes, if any, need to be made? Thanks.

you can put the 93 into the 95 it wil lthrow a CEL due to no PWM solenoid on the trans but you could swap the wiring harness from the 95 to the 93 and plug the PWM lockup solenoid in and let it hang in the pan this will stop the CEL from coming on...also you will need to swap the 3-2 downshift solenoid from the 95 into the 93.

Thanks transbuilderguy. As I get into it I may have to check back for some more help.
I really didn't want to spend the time or money to rebuild my trans right now.

...plug the PWM lockup solenoid in and let it hang in the pan...

Does that mean the torque converter won't lock up?

yes it will lock the 93 doesnt use a pulse width modulated lockup though as long as the solenoid is plugged in the 95 ecu will not know the difference

Thanks for the link NEUMANNZZ! That helps a lot. Tackling the project today.

Well, the shifter assembly is different on the 93 as well. The rod coming out of the trans is too short on the 93 for the neutral start switch and the 95 shifting lever. In addition there are no casting bosses on the 93 to mount the neutral switch to. So, I think rather than changing all that and rigging up the neutral switch, I am going to just rebuild the 95 I took out. I build a bracket today to mount the trans to my engine stand. So, here goes nothing. :)

if you have any questions about the build feel free to ask I have many pictures on my facebook also.

Well, all tore apart. It looks like the thrust bearing under the input sun gear in the forward planetary disintegrated. The sun gear is blue on the end from wear, and I had a hard time getting it out of the planetary. The planetary itself is shot. The ring gear looks OK, but I plan on replacing it too. From what I have read, these parts from the 93 should fit, so I plan to rob them from it. Then a new sun shell, rebuild kit, thrust bearing kit, bushing kit, transgo shift kit, corvette servo, and new torque converter. Anything elso you would recommend?

It is a 95 4x4 ecsb. 265/75R16 tires, and I think it is 3.42 gears, but I'll have to double check that this evening to make sure. I plow 3 houses in the winter, and tow my boat in the summer (about 3000 lbs). I don't think I need too heavy duty for what I have in mind, but I really don't want to do this again.

Dana from Pro-Built Automatics recommended the list below. It looks good, but I was hoping to get out of it a little cheaper than that.

I would use the Heavy Duty rebuild kit with a pre-drilled separator plate along with the Edge Workhorse torque converter here. Go to https://www.700r4l60e.com/store/product.php?productid=330&cat=22&page=1 I would add a 26,000 - 32,000gvw rated external cooler to the stock radiator cooler that you have now. This will work well for what you are wanting to do here. Is this a 2WD? Or a 4WD? If a 4WD, what gear ratio and tire size (diameter) here? Gearing with a 4WD is critical. Let me know? Dana

check out oregon performance transmission if you want a cheaper torque converter get a remanufactured pdq convertor. the probuilt kit has everything you need minus convertor and planetaries.

This is turning into something completely different from the original thread, so I'll start a different one. Thanks guys.
