99-05 stepside plastic step. Has anyone painted this to match the body?

Well, I want to paint this piece to match my truck:

I am replacing the dull handles with esky's, and the dull steps will stick out like a sore thumb...

The truck is fairly low, and I never used the steps on the old truck I had that was almost identical to this one.

I would just remove them, but I'm certain there are holes underneath the steps. It wouldn't be that easy...:rolleyes:


If someone has, do you have pics?
I searched and couldn't find any other info.

remove them from the truck, clean it really good with some soap and water then take it and scuff it up with a scotch bright pad, clean with wax and grease remover, tack it off spray it with some adhesion remover like bull dog, spray it with base coat then clear re-install

I've seen them painted and I've seen them replaced by billet steps. Sadly I don't have any photos either.

I don't think billet will go with the style I'm going for, but it does sound cool.
I'll try google images...

I'm jealous that yours are black and sort of match the color of your truck. If they are faded, just remove them and hit them with some krylon fusion rattle can black paint. That will help hide them a bit or at least have them looking new again. Not sure if coating them with clear to make them glossy is worth the extra effort.

Mine is pewter so my steps catch the eye pretty good. I could easily color match mine but I'm not sure if it would help the looks department. I sort of like how they go well with the bed caps and the stock mirrors (mirror cap color matched). I fear having those steps color matched would look odd.
