Looking at another 87 right now price seems right one thing I noticed is it's lacking the g80 code in the dash so no pos traction. was kinda bummed about this but my friend that went and looked at it with me said he wouldn't have that option that it casues the rear end to explode playing around on pavement..esp with large tires.

thoughts? should i not let that option hold me back

In a fullsize truck G80 is not posi it's a locker, and not a great one. By now any G80 in an '87 is doubtful to still be working...most of them behaving as an open diff or an exploded diff. :D

I wouldn't let the "lack" of G80 deter me from buying any truck.

i own 5 trucks, and 1 "G80" in the 14FF under my 77, and 1 in the 14FF under my 93.

the G80 is what you're mistakenly referring to as "pos traction", there is no other option available from the factory.

The g80 is a death trap. Mine exploded at 70 some mph on the interstate.

ive never had any problems with g80, my neighbor has and 04 2500hd and had no problems with his and its been treated like texasrebels truck, my dad has a 2000 obs 2500 and its got almost 190000 miles on it and most of them have been with an 18' landscaping trailer behind it and my work truck is an 09 1500 z71 and it has 80000 miles and its had a 16' trailer behind it its whole life and its had no problems but thats just opinion on it.

my g80 has been fine and when i first got my truck i spun out on pavement every time i took off. it still works very good, changed my diff oil the other day and no fragments in it and filled it back up with royal purple. mine has 206k on it and acts like new. 3 of our 5 vehicles have the g80 option and we have never had problems with any of them.

I would not let that be the deciding factor for buying the truck or not, there are great after market lockers available..

A locker is an EASY add later and aftermarket units ARE better IF the ONLY reason you are reconsidering is G80 I would say go for it and add a unit later , most 'wheelin forums have LOOOOOONG threads with PRO/CON of posi trac VS lockers VS Zexiels LOTS O info / debate
