ok i know its stupid but i was wondering if it is possible to just pull the engine without haveing to take the tranny out i think i can unbolt it and slide the engine forward a little to get it off the shaft but not sure can it be done or is it just better to just pull the tranny and transfer case anyone done it before this is my first time working on a 97 tahoe worked on a few 95s 2 wd so any help would be nice u can call me if u want 803-207 2433 thanks guys

I think it would end up being more pain than its worth in the long run and it would be near impossible to make sure the torque converter is fully seated. My 0.02

I've pulled just the engine many times. In fact I have our 89 that we pulled from my dads house to ours (10 miles) using a tow strap and the tranny and torque converter was just held in by the cross member and a ratchet strap.

I pulled just my motor on my 95 and it wasnt a problem. Just gotta pull the flywheel to tconverter bolts. Then for install just mating the two is a little pain but not to bad. We found that loosing the tranny mount bolt to give some play worked great. Then just spin the flywheel with something to line up the holes to the converter.

it looks like i can do it but ii drained the tranny fluid and what i found scared me lol this thing was sunken in the mud 4 feet thats why the engine blew it still shifted and all but the tranny fluid was brown not red so im going to pullit and fill it with fluid and then blow it all out in hopes it can clean it then im doing the servo upgrade and get a new converter

Why are you changing the converter? It should be ok even with the brown fluid.
