I have a 01 chevy 1500. 2wd standard cab with the 5.3l.
I want an exhaust system thats midly loud.I want it to be a DEEP RUMBLE though. Not a raspy throaty noise.
I was thinking True duals. On my stock exhaust now, the 02 senso is before the exhuast from both sides of the engine come together. Its on the right side of the engine.
But What mufflers should i get?
My buddy has the Flowtech Warlocks on his 04 2500 http://www.jegs.com/p/Flowtech/Flowt...44884/10002/-1.
Now i like the idea of the removable cap to make it straight piped. His is just obnoxious as all get out without the caps and it would be cool to run it like that every once in awhile. But i his isnt very deep and its kind of raspy with the plugs in and running as "true duals"
He has his running from 2.75 to 3 and told me to just get it converted over to 3 earlier and closer to the engine than he did.
BUT what is your guys opinion?
I WANT DEEP MEAN RUMBLE NO RASPY STUFF

I would imagine that the cutout on the Warlocks would begin to leak over time, but that is just an inference.
Going dumped or out the back?
On topic, Check out the Borla Pro-XS, Spintechs, Magnaflows, or maybe even thrush mufflers on youtube to what you might like.

So your exhaust already combines the two front pipes in to a single pipe? is your goal just to get a certain type of sound or do you have a performance goal too?

yes my stock exhaust combines the pipes from both sides of the engine into a single pipe going into the muffler. Im really not looking for performance, itd be nice, but mostly sound.
The 02 sensor is on one pipe before it combines it into one single pipe.
Ive saw a video of a 2500hd with true dual super 44s and magnaflow highflow cats. It sounds SICK!

Why duals?

if the pipes already combine then you won't have true duals anyway, You will most likely have more power from the setup you have now. You can just run a single 3" exhaust and find a muffler that suites your needs! If the look of duals is really all you care about then just get a muffler with a single 3" inlet and dual 2.5" outlets.

Why duals?
I guess i really dont have a reason for duals? i like the look, but then again its not that big of a deal

They can cut the pipe right before the two pipes combine into one.. then it wont affect the 02 sensors..
My buddies gonna give me a new Thrust muffler for 25 bucks and im gonna see if i like that. If that sounds cool then ill do that. Really all im wanting is a deep mean sounding rumble

I suggest the Flowmaster 40, but I am biased. Here is my setup:

A friend of mine has the exact same setup on his 5.3 with different tips and it sounds exactly the same. It's loud when I romp on it, but quiet otherwise (inside the cab anyway).
Honestly chambered mufflers just do not flow well. I would suggest a Really Short magnaflow or turbo styled muffler. something that flows smoothly through

if you want deep and clean get a dynomax ultraflow 6 or 4 inch round muffler. I had a 6x16 i think and it wasn't what i was looking for but it was definitely a good sound. Plus if you live where they salt the roads like mcdonalds fries like here in Alberta they make stainless ones.

I have a 2003 silverado with the 5.3l I just had the exhaust done y pipe no muffler 2.5 inch to 3.5 inch tips and i love how it sounds quiet enough when your at steady speeds but when you hammer on it it gets pretty loud.

Borla xr-1 round case dumped is so deep and rumbles so nice. if you want a bit cheaper muffler but sounds a tad louder, look into the dynomax bullets. Same dimensions.
I can get a video up if you want with a walk around and some revs.
