Flowmaster 10 to quiet

Ok I got a fm 10 and i had to get the muffler work replaced had a shop mess it up so the guy had to cut off the 2.50 exit ports and open em to a full 3 inch dumped.. when i'm at 60mph @1500rpms its quiet but sounds good when wide open and on take off.. is anyone else fm 10 quiet when driveing 60mph

Just remove the muffler. That ought to be plenty loud at 60 mph

just wanted to see if the exit ports being cut and open up to 3 inch vs the 2.50 inch thats all there is no noise in the cab at 60mph but WOT it talks to ya lol

Whatever you changed, take this bit of advice seriously: Don't mess with it!!!

To have that terrible of a muffler and not experience awful drone at that speed is a blessing in disguise. Seems like you are whining about not having FM 10 drone chase you out of the cab at 60mph when you should be instead recommending whatever you changed or had done to those who have a similar setup but hate the cab noise.

mine is a 10 series 3" SI/SO and its super quiet at idle and cruising but upper RPM's and WOT and it gets really loud..i still have cats tho

Add more cubes... funny you say that, because it is ambiguously correct. Adding more cubes to the engine will make more racket, but also adding more cubes to the total volume of the exhaust system (think bigger pipes) will also afford more racket.

If a single chamber with a turndown isn't loud enough, this guy needs 50kw of stereo and one of these...

I just asked something not a big deal i dont bitch about drone or cab noise thats the point of putting a muffler on is to here it..plus i put my muffler by my axle and the truck i droped 3/4 i never said i wanted to here it....just wanted to see that a stock FM 10 with 2.50 ports sounds like vs 3 inch ports READ BEFORE YOU POST PEOPLE!!!

my 10 series doesnt hardly drone at all..you're more than welcome to come take a ride..of course when i had it installed i had it put as far back as possible (right before the axle with a turndown)

well if you look at where the factory muffler is i suppose someone could put it right under the bed nearest to the cab and it prolly would drone pretty awful..i was pretty specific about telling them to place it as far back as possible for that exact reason..nobody ever believes i have a 10 series when my truck is just idling or cruising around

I've got a pair of Delta 44's 3" in/out dumped on a stock Vortec 7.4, no cats, and it makes people f'ing cringe when I mash the pedal - no lie. I've seen it happen many times...when I downshift and mash it, it sounds like the world is coming to an end.

I wish I had video for the very first time I witnessed this scenario - when I was leaving the muffler shop. Dude in front of me cruising along at half the speed limit in a no-passing zone. Then the road widens to two lanes, I downshift and start changing lanes to go around him, see that he's blabbing on the cell phone, and his window is down. I floored it and the guy practically dove for his passenger seat like a bomb was going off next to him. :D He didn't even look to see what the hell happened, he turned the opposite way and hunkered down like it was the Rapture. :D

Put on some longtubes, no cats, custom tune and your 4.8 will scream with a FM10. Thats what i have at the moment and it sounds deep at idle. Cruising is deep and can be heard. Surprising not a lot of drone either. Step on it and watch people run away LOL. I am going to run a corsa sport later on, but this works for the time being and fit the budget.

Trust me I know all about a straight piped 6L. Sounds worse than hell. And the factory cats are quite free flowing and dont quiet anything done. And do your truck a favor, ditch the Flowmaster and spend some money on a quality muffler, that sounds like sh!t.

yeah there are 2 pup cats, and then 2 bigger ones. my 1500 has 2.5in duals with no mufflers and there is a lot less drone, but it crackles and pops more, and really screams when its wot. obviously these aren't the best setups, but not bad when you are trying to keep a low budget :)

it doesn't necessarily quiet it down but reduces rasp/crackle. i have also ran magna flow, and it was quiet. this thing isn't a camaro, its a truck. i am not gonna go throwing big money into it lol. mind me asking what you have on yours? i haven't looked at ur page but it looks like a diesel

I have dual XR-1s turned down at the rear axle. I dont have any fly by vids, but I can vouch that they sound WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better than most anything anyone has run 6L.

yeah that was loud as hell but absolutely no tone at all haha. i am guessing you had it dumped? the straights definitely sound better with full pipe out the back though. i like the sound of the borla. i can never seem to keep an exhaust for long so maybe one day i will try it out. i would like to put those xr1s on a true dual setup though. and yeah i am sure it has a deep tone. cameras can never pick them up that well. i would like to get a good vid up of my 1500. i haven't heard anything deeper
