View Full Version : 89 Suburban - Convert A/C to Non-A/C?

I picked up an '89 GMC Suburban the other day, with a blown 6.2L diesel. I'm planning on swapping in a 6.5L Turbo diesel from a 1994 Chevy truck. One problem I know that I'll run into is the fact that the turbo is going to hit the A/C box. I would like to swap out the box for just a regular heater box. I've done this swap before on a G-Body car and know what all is involved, but the firewall is the same for A/C and Non-A/C on the G-Bodies. Is this the same case on the 73-91 Chevy trucks, or are the firewalls different between A/C and Non-A/C equipped trucks?

i'm about 99% certain the firewalls are exactly the same. the only differences are in the box itself and the HVAC ducting inside the cab (non A/C trucks didn't have dash vents) and obviously the control panel...

I've tried searching but suprisingly I can't come up with much. Even google only comes back with a few threads with vague posts on whether or not it is possible.

I have also had little luck on this and want to fit A/C in mine (the dash vents mostly)
a LINK to the thread would be awsome thanks

The firewall IS the same...the opening is different. I was referring to the contour and shape of it. So an opening has to be modified, big deal...
