my 5.3L has 270,000 miles and has a bad oil pump o-ring, im told that im going to have to pull the motor to replace the o-ring, since im pulling the motor id like to swap in a 6.0L motor in its place, ive done 4.8L to 5.3L swaps on trucks before and its basically a direct swap, ive also swapped in 3800 s/c motors into fiero's before (not a direct swap)

here's my thoughts

use 6.0L block/heads/oilpan/flexplate/torque converter
use 5.3L motor mounts, intake, electronics, and fuel injection.

my 5.3L has longtube headers, and a k&n CAI kit along with dual 2.5" into single 3" exhaust.

im hoping to keep my stock transmission, its in good shape, and im debating on swapping in 3.73 gears in place of my current 3.42 gears.

ive got a parts truck thats a 02 4.8L auto with the 3.73's and it has a G80 rear diff, so the rear diff is definatly going into my truck cause its got an open diff, i dont think i want the disk brake axle from the 02 model though, im told my drums are better.

if anyone has some advice please let me know, id rather have real world experience rather than theory.

thanks for the help.

you can change the O ring with the engine stll in the truck. Just a little more tedious to do so.

Swap the 6 liter longblock but keep everything else original to your truck. The 4l60e may not like the new found power though, even if it is in good shape now. Expect it to die a more sudden death.

For the most part it's a bolt-in swap.

thats awsome, is tuning required, or is it just preferred? i know it will need tuned, but just didnt know if it would even run without being tuned.

im trying to buy a 2003 chevy G3500 for the 6.0L right now, it has 140k miles on it, but thats half the miles my truck has currently.

atleast its not as hard as the 3800 series II s/c motor was in the fiero.

i put about 4000-5000 miles a year on my truck since i bought it, all previous mileage was put on by a flag company outta texas, so all the current miles are highway.

ive got a buddy that specializes in rebuilding the 4l60E for performance purposes, so when it goes, it will get rebuilt.

Required, the parameters of the 6.0 differ from the the 5.3

will it run enough to make it from the shop, to my home (about 1/2 mile?) i know a 4.8L to 5.3L swap doesnt require anything at all.
