View Full Version : Options on lowering my 95' more w/ a 2/4 already in place

I lowered my 95' with 2" spindles in front with shackles and hangers in the rear. I was contemplating going lower. I realize I need to notch the frame, but a flip kit goes 6" right? That would be too much. I'd do springs in front obviously, but I'm looking for a 5" or 6" total drop in the rear. Any suggestions? Anybody have input on drop leafs? For what I've looked for, aside from scrapping the rear kit I already installed and putting it back to stock and then doing a flip kit, swapping the leafs out might be the only option for an easy addition? Any help would be appreciated.

Yes, a flip kit is 6". I don't know anything about the dropped leafs. I wouldn't hesitate using them though. I had drop shackles and went back to the stockers for my flip kit. You also need to think about wheels and tires. Not sure what wheels you have now. With that much drop, the wheels need to tuck inside the fender, which means a different offset and shorter tires.

Thanks for the input. The truck is sitting on 275/45/R20 rockstars. Not sure about what the offset is. I guess I'm just looking at ways to easily go an inch or two more w/o going through taking the hangers off again after I already ground off the factory rivets and added aftermarket stuff. And if I'm looking at having to change my wheel set up I would probably not go any farther then anyway. I'm not opposed to going back to stock and just flipping it, but would like for the work I've already put into it to have not been basically wasted on not leaving well enough alone. But I guess that's the nature of the beast, always something more. Any other input would be great.

If you want to go 5" in the rear, you could do what I did and use 4" drop leafs and set the drop shackles at the 1" mark. If you want to go 6", the flip is the easy way to do it. You will need a notch for either.

I have the same 2/4 setup on my 97. What I was going to do hopefully is put the shackles to their highest position possible then put the flip kit in.

Even if you go with drop leafs, you'll still have to go back to stock with either the shackles or hangers to be at 6". My suggestion using leafs would be to leave the drop hangers on. That way if you ever decided to go another inch or 2 in the future, it's a simple job of just adding the drop shackles back in.

That's the advice I was looking for. Thanks everybody.
