I had a Flowmaster #17167 Cat-back exhaust system installed on my 98 K3500 reg cab/long bed truck. It is a single side exit system that uses a 50 series big block muffler. It sounds pretty good, not too loud but loud enough. I got a heck of a deal from amazon.com for $160 shipped. When I checked a few days later, the price was $285 shipped. Here are some pics.

I like it. The truck now sounds like a truck should. It has the 454 in it so that helps the sound out.

I have that one also. I like the sound alot with the 350 too. I think I paid around $300 from Summit, so you got a great deal.

Mine exits in the same location but it's tucked up alot more and exits toward the ground a bit. Must be the difference in bed lengths.

The muffler itself is tucked up more than it appears to be in my pictures. The Flowmaster muffler is smaller in diameter than the original muffler and it was welded onto the original inlet pipes. As far as the tailpipe goes, the guy who installed it, put a level on the tailpipe and tightened down the clamp. Maybe yours was just left pointing down more than mine was. Was your system a Cat-back?

Yes it's the american thunder catback. This one: http://www.flowmastermufflers.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=0&products_id=3785&ab=17287&recordID=215&vehicle=&orig=17287
I guess it does say extended cab short bed only.

Either way, I agree that its a great system.

My system has 3" piping all the way. I don't currently have a good video camera or I would try and get a sound clip.

What I found funny on Flowmaster's website is when I put in my exact vehicle and searched for a system, the system that I installed was not pulled up but when I searched for the part # I installed, it came up. The price for this system on Flowmaster's website is $395 so I got a great deal at $160. I would have bought two of these systems if I knew the price was going to go back up to have one for the future when the muffler rusts out. Anyway, I'm happy with it.

Since it appears you're in an area where rust is a concern, get some good hi-temp paint and shoot the welds, etc. to protect your exhaust. It will make a big difference in longevity.

Gotta paint rustfasters annually if you want them to last.

I did paint all of the welds on mine and plan on touching it up if needed.
