I was thinking about buying a basic OBD scanner to add to my tool collection. What do u guys use? And how do you determine which to buy...OBD or OBDll?

I believe the year model of the vehicle you are analyzing has some implications on whether you need the original model or the OBDII. At least that is what I was told with my chevy. I have a 2006 and they told me I would need to OBDII to analyze it.

Yea, I did some research but did not find anything on a 00 silverado. I would assume it would be the OBDll, but read somewhere that it didn't work on an 00 s-10 which is making me second guess.

Yes, 96+ will be OBDII. There where a couple models in 95 that had OBDII (I think Corvette and Camaro/Firechicken, but NOT sure). The Feds mandated it in 96.
