Got a 2000 silverado ecsb 4x4, i am installing an amp and wondering where is a good place to hook up the large power wire? Just straight to the battery or? also, where in the firewall is a good place to run the power wire through into the cab?
Thanks

same way I did it. Makes it much easier to work with that way.

run it strait to the batter with a good connectoin ,im not familiar with the 2000 but run power through fire wall driverside there should be a cover that u take out to run accesorys through

I just hooked mine straight to the battery but the red positive box will also work. As for getting the wire in the cab i ran it inside the fender trim and up the drainage hole in front of the passenger seat then straight under the baseboard. looks good and unnoticable.

it is much better to run the power wire straight to the battery. IIRC the wire that feeds that red terminal on those trucks is fed by an 8 gauge wire from the battery... and the rest of your truck runs off that 8 gauge wire as well. you can see the issue there.

But you could always upgrade the 8ag wire as well, I plan on doing it to mine and attaching the stereo at the red box for a cleaner terminal at the battery. Dont cheap out on the inline fuse either, mine melted in my summer car from a crappy install with too small of wire.

x3, the battery in my truck is stupid and has side mounts so the red box near the alt was the only option, cap dosent close though, but thats what i get w/ 2 gauge wire

Mine is actually about to get changed. I bought a yellow top optima so im going to use the top post for my system and rerun it all again to clean it up some and run my ground directly off the battery. I have some extra wire laying around that I can use for my ground so its all good

Okay.. Someone needs to ask.. How many watts are you going to be running? Because a good way for running #8 is not going to be the same or a good way for running 1/0. If you going to be doing much at all do your self a HUGE favor and buy a dual post power-cell rather than a battery or an optima. You WILL thank yourself later. I have a single run of 1/0 ofc under the back seat of my 06 extended cab and I ran it from the second cell (passenger side engine compartment) to the drivers side and down the frame and straight up through the floor under the back rest of the back seat through a 1/0 firewall grommet (http://www.summitracing.com/parts/QCR-57-830/). Those are extremely handy by-the-way.
