In my 91 C1500, the dome light works, but if I try to use either of the map lights, the fuse immediately pops....So I'm guessing that the switch is bad..
Are these things serviceable or do I need to just buy a whole new dome light?

Sound like a short. I'd check the wiring behind the map lights.

wiring looks good...I dont think that the switches themselves are replaceable...I may have to buy a whole new assy...ugh

Yo lunchie...assuming you already made sure all the bulbs are good? Almost always, when a bulb goes bad it blows "open" but every now and then they will short.
I haven't seen a bad switch yet on these, not saying it can't happen, just unlikely.

i figured it out I think.....I went out there while it was dark, popped in the dome light assy, and saw a spark on the wires in the roof right above the dome light...so I gotta fix that short and I should be good to go...
Wire pinched under the mounting screws?

The +12 lead is hot all the time, switch just grounds it, so that's very possible.

so I figured it out...my truck was a Cheyenne, when I installed all the Silverado trim pieces, I used screws that we're a bit too big...everything worked great until I popped the dome light assy on and then what I realized, was that the screw head made contact with part of the wiring on the dome lights.....I changed the screws, then put a bit of electrical tape over it...and everything was great.....
now I gotta find the plastic piece that covers up the center light.
I've already replaced all the festoon's with LED's :)
