lets say your giving a vehicle a fresh coat of paint, you want the body to be one color (white) with a large stripe down the side (black) how do you do this?
as far as paint all white then a black stripe on top?
or black stripe tape it off then do white?
something else?

specifically this will be on a boat using polyurethane one part paint. sorry its not a fsc but this is the paint section and this forum is really useful. there arent many useful boat mechanic forums, especially for painting a fiberglass boat

paint it all white and then do a black stripe is what i do and never had any problems. but make sure you let it fully dry before you tape it off to put the stripe on.

Just remember it's always easyer to cover up white with black than trying to cover black with white.

either paint the whole thing white then pait what you want black or just tape off what you want to be black and then paint white and then tape off the white and paint black but make the different colors will show threw if you have over spray and then try to paint over it unless you put alot of coats on it.

Lay down the white, then lay the black on top. Check the material data sheets to see how long you have to wait before taping on top. once taped, and you lay down the black, pull the tape ASAP after you paint the black, this leaves less of an edge. Also use fineline tape. Ive painted many multi layer colors, and patterns on lowriders and harleys, sometimes I spray right on top of base, other times I like to lay some clear, then lay on top of that. All depends on situation.

Lay your stripe color, tape it off, shoot the following color, rinse, lather, repeat.

btw, fine line, art paper, and a brand new razor are your friend.

i always paint the stripe then mask it off how i want it to look then apply the rest of the color....instead of masking the entire truck off
