I have been out of the loop for awhile.
Have a chance to pickup an 01 8.1 cheap, whole truck.
I have a richmond 6 speed
It is the old school style 4 bolt to the bellhousing like muncie etc.
Is it possible to mate them together.
Are there any companies out there that sell the adapters
thanks

The 8.1 will have the same bellhousing bolt patern as any other Chevy V8 engine. So it if your richmond 6 speed fits a chevy now it should work. I would imagine the clutch is going to be the issue. You need a flywheel that fits the 8.1, with a pressure plate that fits the flywheel and fits under the bell housing of the trans, then you need the friction disc that fits in there and has the right splines for the tranny.

Can it be done? probably but its going to take some research to get all the right parts to frankenstien it together.

Did the 8.1 ever get a stick factory? Is there a manual trans flywheel? If not, can a 454 flywheel work? Balancing might be an issue. Being the L29 is externally balanced and unsure on the 8.1, either way will pose issues.

But would be way cool....

Yes, they are very hard to find but you could get the 8.1 with the ZF-6 behind it. I've only seen a few pop up on ebay or auto trader in the last 10 years.

So there is a flywheel that you can bolt to the 8.1 but then the question is if the rest of that clutch will work with your richmond.

All kinds of swap info on ZF-6's. Apparently they are kinda popular with the vette guys.

Did the 8.1 get a dual mass flywheel like the Duramax or ?

No, Being that I have an 8.1 with a t56 behind it. You can use a 12 inch std 2 piece flywheel neutral balance 350 396 427 behind the 8.1, the std 8.1 flywheel uses that wide cushion spring clutch disc with less surface area.
