I have just bought a 1997 3/4 ton suburban 4x4 with a vortec 350, and I am very happy that i went with the 3/4 ton. So far I have 2 major questions.
1 Why does my suburban NOT have the Corporate 14 bolt rear axle?( its has the OTHER gm 14 bolt in it.......yuck)

2 is the hypertech 32000 worth getting? I'm not looking to use it to get a lot more power, I mainly want to adjust the shift firmness and shift points with it. I am a little bit scared of using a computer tho ever since what happened to the 4L60E in my first truck when i used a B&M electronic shift improver, yeah i lost my reverse then the tranny went on it. I know the 4L80E is a good transmission and that's why i bought the 3/4 ton but i still can't shake the feeling that it mite kill the transmission.

Thanx in advance

My 98 truck has a 454 with the 4L80, and a hypertech tune. The tuner is ok, makes the trans shift reasonably quick. No trans issues at all. The 80 is tough. Not sure what rear you have. Is it the 14 bolt with full float axles or semi float?

Yeah it has the semi float. I'm going to get around to swapping in a full float as soon as I can. Did you programming the shift firmness all the way up? I heard it was adjustable but I could be wrong. If it isn't adjustable I sure hope it shifts good. I ordered a deep sump pan from b&m and there trans temp gauge kit to.

Mine is the older programmer 3. It will alter shift points and control how hard it shifts. I have it set for both, even when pulling a 10k trailer. Anything can break but i'd say your pretty safe with that trans. Why do you want a 14ff in the burb? The sf should be plenty strong.

I trust a full float more than a semi float. It will do for now but I am planning to swap a full float in with a Detroit locker in it.
