So I am getting the final parts together for the NV4500 swap in my 97. Here is the question, what is the difference between the flywheels and clutch kits for the Gen V and Gen VI engines? The Gen V stuff is half the cost of the Gen VI stuff. I have been reading that they both can take the same Flywheel and the one that GMPerformance parts sales is the same number for both the Gen V and Gen VI.

http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/performance_parts/store/catalog/Category.jhtmlCATID=533.html Two piece rear seal flywheels are different than ours. Our engines use a different amount of counterweight to balance. That may just apply to flexplates on the balance though.

I found that page also. Why are the clutches so different in price though? There is nearly $100 difference in clutch from a 95 to a 97 model year. I am not trying to be cheap I just want to know what is so different to make such a jump in price.

I'm guessing the pressure plate bolt pattern has changed. GM is good for that. I needed to put a clutch in a cavalier one time and it was 400$!! All over a pattern change.

I think I am going with the older clutch for the 95. Everything I read says that the Gen V and VI BBC's can use the same flywheel.

Maybe the newer is a heavier setup?

So anybody wanna help me figure out parts for my setup? I've got a '90 BBC (Mark IV I think) but it's being mated to a LTx T-56. If someone has any idea about a bellhousing that will go from a LS T-56 to a BBC then I'm all ears. I know this affects my clutch setup too. Anybody got any flywheel and clutch recomendations, I have been leanin towards a RAM twin disc, but have no experience.

I don't think you will have any issues getting either bellhousing to mate up. The bolt pattern is the same as far I remember. The LS crowd doesn't really use Ram clutches all that much, not sure why. It seems that Monster Clutches and Textrailia are the two big ones out there. The Chevelle forum would probably be your best bet for info on using the T56 behind a BBC.

In 96 they went to the internal slave cylinder/throwout bearing combo so the pressure plates are a little different.
