I have a 2009 GMC Sierra Crew Cab that has the factory AM/FM/XM single-disc CD player radio in it. I'm thinking about putting an OEM Nav-style radio in and have a few questions? 1) How well does the Nav actually work? 2) Besides, Nav, what other benefits are there to this radio over what I have, other than a big screen.
I have an SLE truck without the center floor console, so my radio doesn't sit low like on the LTZ Silverados or SLT Sierras. Is that a problem?
Thanks in advance.

my buddy has an 08 silverado LT with the factory navigation screen. It seems to work pretty well from looking at it the handful of times I've ridden with him. It didn't ever lose connection or anything, then again we were in the city and not out in the middle of nowhere. I'm not sure about what the other benefits are besides having navigation, which is a pretty big upgrade from not having it IMO.
Im not positive on this but keep in mind that you will probably need to get a dealership to flash or unlock the new head unit after you install it. If its anything like the NBS radios anyways.

Your best bet is to get an aftermarket one put in. The cost is probably cheaper and you get a lot more for your money than just navigation

It should never lose connection unless you are in a covered bldg for an extended period of time. Even going through a tunnel it calculates your speed and never messes up on the other end, unless you don't make it to the other end  Garages are the only problem, but who needs directions in a garage?
