Whats up guys? I new to the forum. I don't currently own a truck yet but do plan to buy one here in the next month or so.

My ZZ4-350 name is because I own a CJ7 with that engine. I'm totally a chevy guy and have put off buying a truck for far too long!!!

So I'm currently searching for a early 90's silverado single cab stepside

I think I'm pretty much set on finding a 1993-94 Z71 with black paint, and gray interior, and the 5.7 V8

I also want to find one with half decent miles (nothing over 150k) and I want a 5 speed with 4x4

I also have a few questions if you don't mind.

1.) Can someone provide some accurate measurements for me (length from front to back bumper, and outside mirror to outside mirror)?
Reason for this is I'm hoping to fit the truck in my garage.

2.) Can someone tell me what of odds are of me finding that truck with all those combos listed above?

3.) What should I expect to pay for a truck like that? (hoping you will say ~3 grand)

4.) What are the biggest problems I should look for when inspecting that potential truck?

Thanks in advance for your responses.

1. I cant try google or wiki ?
2. prob 1/20 most single cab trucks in the 90's are the 305 "5.0" from stock
3. 3Kish
4. Rust if you live up north which i assume you do, make sure engine isnt leaky make sure you can hopefully get records and a clear tittle

Also, 150K Miles isnt anything i wouldn't expect to find that type of mileage on any truck in the low 90s with your budget i got my 93 gmc/305 at 220K and ran it to 320K before i rebuilt the 305
I cant really see you finding a 4x4 single cab either with that budget unless its high miles but you have to remember, High miles dont really mean a lot as long as it runs and looks like its been taken well care of.

Those older cast iron blocks were made to last.

1- Dunno for RCSS.
2- 5.7L Z71 RCSS 5spd... probably pretty rare. Skip the useless Z71 designation (it's just a sticker and skid plates, and the skid plates can be found in the JY), and settle for a 5.0L or auto and options will be plentiful. Can swap to stick or from 5.0 to 5.7 quite easily. Look for a stick truck, as the engine swap is childs play.
3- Too many variable to even hazard a guess.
4- Rust, Rust, rust... that's about it.

thanks for the reply. Found a guy up in Denver with the exact truck I'm looking for (minus the gray interior) his is red.

1.) How hard is an interior swap? Only reason I ask is I have seen some pics of some people with gray interior that have swapped in a 60/40 bench seat from a 95+ Tahoe or Suburban) point being I can have an arm rest or I can take 2 other people if need be) but obviously the interior color is not the end of the world.

2.) the truck has a 5 speed manual that I'm assuming is a NV3500. How good are those things? I ask because I have big plans for my truck (I have almost an entire turbo kit sitting in my garage that I'm planning on putting on what ever truck I buy)

3.) Yeah I guess I can try and hunt around Google for info but I think its better to ask enthusiasts than believe random stuff on the internet.

Again thanks for the responses and I'll keep you posted on what I find

NV3500's are fine for stock 5.7L. It's torque limit it somewhere around 320-350ftlbs IIRC, so I wouldn't keep an NV3500 if I was building a motor. NV4500 or T56.

ok so I guess if I want to stick with a manual, and have 4 wheel drive and have an over drive gear? I should swap in the NV4500?

- What models of trucks came with those transmissions?
- How hard is the swap from an auto to the NV4500? (Thinking I may find my ideal truck and it just has an auto)
- Do I have to mess with the ECU if I change from auto to manual?
