Not sure if anyone cares about this any more but anyway. I went to the bone yard and pulled a cd deck with remote mount tape deck for $20. My truck came factory with tape up top and remote cd down below. Since my deck was toast and acting up I just replaced it with this setup for $20. A soldering iron and some time. This is very easy to do with this setup. You can get these setups from astro/safari various GM trucks both midsized and full. This setup came out of a malibu. All of your truck brackets interchange with all delco radios so install is plug and play.

was the aux in already installed on the tape deck or did you have to put that in yourself?

I put it in myself with a port from radio shack and a few wires. Very simple to do. the whole mod took like 30mins.

do you remember what exactly you hook the port to inside the tape deck?

yep there is three wires. Blue white and red. Tap your left channel into red and your right into white. Then attach your ground. Rather then using the blue wire I just used grounded my ground wire to the tape deck shell. You can attach RCA plugs or even a standard male headphone jack. Whatever you want.

ok do you know if you actually have to have the tape deck installed for it to work or could you just wire it to the harness going to the tape deck?

I am not sure if you can wire it to the harness because the wires inside are what sends the signal to the board inside the deck. It may be possibly but I’m not sure. What can be done is to hide the tape portion behind the dash and run a jack like mine out to the dash or even RCA plugs. If its the tape deck you don’t want seen.

Are these the 3 wires leading from the tape deck to the receiver? If so, I could hit the junkyard, chop the harness with plug from the receiver to tape deck, and solder a headphone jack to that, right?

No these are inside the tape deck unit itself. Then that plugs into your receiver. The receiver still has to think its connected to the tape deck to work. If you just use the plug it will be useless because it has to detect the tape player. If you dont want the tape player visible hide it under the dash or glove box, etc.

Can you tap into the cd player if you have the cd below and the tape on the unit? any pics or write up info for this, I would love to do this. Trying to keep everything looking stock as possable.

I know you can, I think LS1tech has a thread on it if you're google savvy.
from what i understand, a jack can be wired in right after the tuner portion of the radio, 88GMCtruck did it to a radio in his camper

i just did this mod the other day on my 1995 Tahoe. has factory cassette built in the hu and a slave cd player. i mounted mine in the slave cd player. can still play cd's and when you plug the mp3 player in it automatically switches the audio over to the mp3 player. it kicks ass glad i did it now.
and yes you have to leave a cd in the player. working on fixing that as well. but its not really a big deal.
