If you want it loud run straight pipe or flowmaster 40series. or make it true duals these have 2.5 then go into a single 3 stock.

I like the magnaflow straight through design.

they are not bad but I like the sound of a flowmaster better

cherry bomb glasspacks imo are too loud and have lots of drone.

Dynomax bullets are pretty loud.

Someone suggested a 3" stock tail pipe. Is that just using a tail pipe off of a 2500? I had thought about doing that also. Those stock tail pipes, if you cut them right at the muffler, have a Y built into them already. I am considering cutting the factory Y out and putting dual mufflers and then using the HD tail pipe, if it will hang right.

x2 on the dynomax bullets. I think you would be happy with those.

And if you want louder, yet still tamed, Flowmaster 10 series. (even though I hate flowmasters)

i love my 10 series..and its bound to be quieter on the 4.8 since mine has the 5.3 and isnt too loud

keep it simple and run a single 3 inch catback system. Temagnaflow catback that i have is pretty good IMO.

1-LT headers
2-Y-pipe matched up to collector diameter (2.5" preferably for optimal flow) that goes into a 3" pipe
3-Then into applicable emissions equipment (i'd prefer a 3" high flow cat if necessary)
4-3" pipe into a 3" SI/SO muffler of your choice (I recommend Dynomax Race Bullets, for loud and nasty tone)
5-Then a 3" or 3.5" tailpipe (buy an appropriate muffler to accommodate your selection)

This would be the most solid performing exhaust setup for a DD truck. It shouldn't be too large for even a stock 4.8L. Yet will still have plenty of breathing room for a strong 4.8L with a tune and some bolt on work.

I'd go duals (2.25" stock or 2.5" with some bolt ons, cam) if you were running a different cam, heads, etc. or a LT setup with 3" collectors into a 3.5" single exhaust for more torque.

What would you recommend if a person is not wanting to run headers? I am curious about using the HD tail pipe specifically. Anyone with experience there?

Longtubes and a corsa sport catback. Loud as can be at WOT, but docile and no drone when cruising.

The stock manifolds basically are cast iron, "shorty" manifolds, so just get a Y-pipe that matches the manifold outlet diameter, that goes into a 3" exhaust/cat/whatever.

This would be your best choice for pipe size and power for a stock truck.

my 01 4.3 has 2.5 off the manifolds into a single 3 all the way back.

large tips with some flowmasters and no cats would be nice.
