Seems simple but it isnt! How do i take off my shifter knob??

I have an 02 2500hd 4x4 with a 5 speed tranny. I dont like the shifter knob on it now but i cant figure out how to get it off so i can replace it. I thought i would just thread off but it doesnt. Any ideas?

it might be glued if its not threaded. It should be threaded though...

I just went out and wrenched on it as hard as i could and the bottom part of the knob started to turn but the knob itself didnt budge.
