I have the oppertunity to buy an Allison 1000 6 speed cheap. I am not worried about the mechanical end of this tranny swap into a 98 454 truck, my question is if the stock ecm can be programmed to run this trans. Currently has a 4L80. Any thoughts?

I highly doubt it. I'm not even sure if a GM ECM is running the Allison in a new truck. I think it might be an Allison computer running with the GM computer.
You might try reading the Allison stickies on the 4btswaps website.

I can get the trans for 800, and with only 51k miles. It has a double overdrive from what i've read. I just need to dig around some more to find out how it's controlled.

I looked into doing the 6l80E swap for my truck and it was not possible without a Gen IV gm engine. I dunno how similar the allison woud be, but the GM will not run without extensive input from the TCM and ECM.

well i just found a stand alone computer for the trans so yes, it can be done. But the computer and wiring is $1,600!!!

Use the GM standalone TCM. Cheaper and easier. Still need a tuner to tune if it doesn't match what you need.

Oh, the Allison in many cases needs a lifted body on the frame. It is a big sucker.

Or just cut and build a trans tunnel. That's what all the chevelle and F-body guys do when they install a T-56.

Ok thanks. I will look into that. I am going to do some trading with the guy and get the trans. The swap may never happen unless something happens to the 80...I'm not into spending a bunch of money and tearing the truck apart unless it's broken.

Easiest and cheapest way to do it would be to get a stock harness, ECM, and TCM from a factory 8.1/Allison truck. Completely replace your engine/trans harness with that one. Then you would have to do all the stuff to switch your engine over to a 0411 ECM and just plug it in. If you've already done the 0411 swap this probably wouldn't be bad at all.
You would also need a good custom tune afterwards to make a 8.1 tune work on a 454.
