what kind of mods would you guys recommend for a vortec 305; like headers, intake, and other stuff like that. I dont want to put to much money into this engine as it will eventually be swapped out ,and is my everyday driver, but would like a bit more get up and go. any suggestions???

What vehicle/year are you talking about?
What gears does it have.
I'm happy to tell you you don't need to do anything internal to the engine. All of the worthwhile mods will transfer to whatever you decide to swap into its place.
What's the gearing? tire size?
Here are the main hitters: 1. Custom PCM tune. 2. TC upgrade. 3. Gears (depending on what you already have). 4. LT headers with minimum 2-1/4" headpipes Y'ed into a single 3" exhaust.
No gains to be had with intake mods.

The vehicle i have is a 1996 Regular cab/short bed C1500 Pickup with stock auto trans, and it's stock Vortec 305.
And as far as i know it's still running stock gears as well.
I have winter terrain tires on now but run 235/75/15inch tires during the spring/summer/fall.
Forgot to mention that i already have an aftermarket exhaust setup.

How could I forget....one of the best mods - A Transgo HD2 shift kit with an 093 (Vette) servo. That, combined with eliminating torque management in the programming, is the best bang for the buck when it comes to seat of the pants driving feel. Even better with a good TC ;)

Best mod I could suggest is Doug Thorley Tri-Y headers and a good tune. Even a super heavy Express van weighing in 6,000 lbs responded well to it.
