So, I have flowmaster 44's 2.5' pipe into the mufflers and 3' out. one of the baffles in the muffler is bad and it's making a hellacious noise. I have been converted to turndowns from a FSC member I can't remember.. since my 45's are bent up pretty bad thanks to an accident I was in.
basically, my question is.. when running turn downs. should I just take off the mufflers and run turn downs from that? or run more pipe and dump it behind the axle? or should I replace the muffler and then run turn downs? I would like to make this as cheap as possible.. but not have it sound like crap. loud isn't that bad. I'm still young
I also don't have a welder so I'll most likely be taking it to a shop. Unless I can manage to find a friend with a working welder that has the time.

Throw the Flowmaster away and never do that again!
Really, the most cost effective would prolly be just to get your muffler replaced with something that will directly fit back in. Just pick your preference.

I believe flowmaster has a lifetime warranty, But I'd also like to change up the sound
I wasn't sure what people are running. i don't want to straight pipe it and run turn downs and have it sound awful. or buy another muffler and waste my money and have it sound awful.

alot of people run bullets and dump them before the axle. or you could Y pipe it into a chrome stack up through the body.

I have a thrush turbo muffler on mine. sounds very similar to a flomaster 40 but half the price. so far i am really impressed with it pretty quiet in the cab but sounds real mean outside.

Well... I cut the pipe off a bit after my muffler to see what turn downs woild sound like (without buying them and doing the work)
It sounds TERRIBLE. anybody have any recommendations? I would like an MBRP.. but I need to stay cheap (under $100 for it all)
Any recommendations? And how far behind is it dumped?
Pictures always welcome.

Also. Would switching to 2 1/4' pipe from cat back help any?

I have heddman turbo mufflers dumped before the rear axle, with 2 1/4 and sounds okay.

is there a lot of drone when exhaust is dumped behind the rear axle? i don't really want a lot of drone. I like music and not having a headache.
I am thinking I want glasspacks for mufflers.

The nice thing about turbo mufflers is they quiet down at cruising speeds generally, and glasspacks seem to just be loud all the time. What are some recommended mufflers, brands? I have a flowmaster 50 series 2 in 2 out muffler now.

Please don't post exhaust advice ever again. Thanks.

OP, turn downs before or after the axle is up to your wallet. Do you want to pay a little extra to extend pipe past the axle or not. Personally, I'd stick with before the axle. As for mufflers, get the Flowmaster warrantied, sell it to some naive high school kid, buy a decent muffler (Spintech, Borla, Corsa if you can find just the muffler, etc) and slap it in there.

Plan on it! already have a buyer for both  How much drone difference will it be? I don't want a crazy amount of drone.
I would love a Borla.. but it's that $$$ thing I don't have enough of. haha
I am laid off and broke. Needing a cheap get me by for a while.

+1

If your just looking for cheap to get you by, put the cheapest muffler you can buy on there to get you by while saving to put the system you want. Spend $50 now, and save your coin to do it right the way YOU want it in a few months or when you can afford it. Just FYI, make sure what ever you put on extends past the cab!

That's the plan! I think I'm going to dump it behind the rear axle.
I just hope I managed to come across enough money for a new truck... haha
mine is rusting away faster than I can keep up with. Not including the massive amounts of dents.
