I have a '95 w/TBI, and I'm presently running 8° advanced timing. I have no detonation w/ premium fuel.

Out of error, last time I replaced my cap/rotor I set it back to 0° (stock timing), and the thing felt like I had a boat anchor dragging behind it. I learned these engines like a lot of advanced timing.

Your mileage may vary when it comes to how much timing your engine is happy with, I have a TBI riser, chip and headers that come into play also.

Start at 5-6° and advance until you get pinging then back off a degree or two.

P.S. I just remembered your truck will have the OBD II, I'm not sure how this system reacts to timing changes. The computer may try to retard the timing back. Maybe someone will chime in on that.
