After lowering my 1987 silverado via a flipkit in the rear, I had to cut off the tailpipes. I am running Thrush Welded chamber mufflers. I love how they sound outside the truck, but inside they are just annoying. I even added some length of piping to move them as far back as I could before the rear axle, which helped, but it is still annoying especially on the highway.

I don't like the look of tailpipes IMO. I like a clean look. I WAS considering a side exit before the rear wheels, but, due to the parking brake cable locations on the driver side of this truck, it won't work.

Also, I don't want to bring this to an exhaust shop, I'm doing this myself.

So, for dumped mufflers, what should I use to replace these loud 2chambers? I want quiet with just a little rumble at WOT. I prefer the sound of my music to the exhaust. I want a relatively cheap muffler as well (under $50).

OR, should I keep the mufflers I have and add an h-pipe?

OR, will any dumped muffler produce drone?

H pipe will help low end power and drone. It will also make the tone smoother and a little quieter. You probably can't do it, but 6 feet of pipe behind the muffler is the recommendation for the best sound.

Those mufflers are pretty quiet to begin with, you won't really find a muffler that is quiet and won't drone for under$50. I would run piping as far back as you can from the muffler and don't put turndowns on the end, it drones because the sound is resonating between the ground and bed and traveling to the cab.

If you want a dumped muffler you're going to have to deal with some kind of drone.

If you want the minimal amount of drove possible, then go with a Borla ProXs exhaust. I ran Flowmasters for years, and will never go back.
