View Full Version : How can I remove the AIR Injection from my 99?

I just bought a set of Dougs Mid length tuned headers that don't have provisions for the AIR injection tubes. I could care less for the AIR since it seems 99 was the only year they used it on the LS motor. I want to remove the pump and throw it out, but how do I wire it so that the ECU doesn't know it's gone? I'd go to the dealer to get the ECU reflashed, but because I live in CA, the dealer won't change anything that has to do with smog equipment. Personally I think it's a joke since the air inj only works for the first 4 min of a cold start up anyway...

I figured it out! I simply looked at the wiring diagram.... I then removed the 30 amp maxi fuse, and walla! No check engine codes and the air inj pump and checkvalves are gone!

Sadly, I have to keep the egr to stay CA legal. (I made a thin block off plate that I'm going to use that is 18 gauge and smaller OD than the gasket, so I'm hoping it'll be unnoticeable.)

will it pass the smog inspection? I am putting headers on my 99 suburban right now and can't get the air injection off the old manifolds. dealer has discontinued them

It wont pass a visual, as the VIN will dictate functioning (connected) AIR injection.

But the right shop may not notice. :D

Mine passed. I put on headers that had the CA legal carb number on a welded plate to the headers. Simply pulled the large 40 amp fuse and tucked away the 2 connectors that went to the air sys.
