Ok so i have a 2001 6.0 L silverado 2500. It has pacesetter headers to an offroad y pipe(no cats) then into a 12" long - 3"in/out dynomax race bullet, then 3" piping to a flowmaster 50 series single in/out 3" muffler connected to the stock tailpipe(which is a little less than 3") If you got all that maybe you can help. First off I only had the flomaster and it was too loud. I thought adding the race bullet would help quiet it down which it did but only a small amount. It is still way too loud. I dont want the neighbors mad at me when i leave for work early in the morning. I love the performance aspect of the high flow muffler but the sound has to go. I read that the 6.0 are one of the hardest engines to quiet down that chevy makes but there has to be something out there that will do it. (OTHER THAN GOING BACK TO STOCK) This time around Im thinking of switching out the muffler. Currently its a flowmaster 50 series SUV muffler that is supposed to be one of flowmasters quietest which it may be.....just not on my truck. Ive researched dynomax VT and Corsas DB, along with the largest muffler Magnaflow makes. Just looking for some advice as to which route to go. Im getting tired of the guesswork and the money its costing me. Any and all suggestions are appreciated.

Cats really help to muffle these trucks, and to a lesser extent the manifolds do also. My favorite setup was two bullet mufflers in place of the cats, and a single 3-1/2" Aerochamber. It had a nice rumble but wasn't loud. I had stock manifolds though. You're probably going to need to do something like that, but with the big magnaflow muffler.

The biggest Magnaflow would probably be your best bet...it'll be quiet cruising but will still scream if you go WOT

Flo Pro makes some exellent mufflers for the HD's in there big oval series which are designed for these trucks. I have one on my 05 1500HD and it's no different soundwise than it was stock, which is what I wanted. You can get more sound just by picking an alternate model. And the biggest beauty of them, no drone!

I think they are less than $200 a piece in the states. I think around $150 or maybe a bit less. Not super cheap, but nothing good ever is, lol.

Don't know how popular these are around here since I'm a newb to this platform, but I like Dynomax for a performance muffler that doesn't sound quite as loud or aggressive. They have a new model the "VT" that has a valve that adjusts based on flow. Supposed to help a ton with drone as well. http://www.dynomax.com/application_info.php?vehicle=2007-1999-silverado-sierra-1500-2500-pickup-under-8600-gvwr-2007-classic-only-6-8-cyl-w-4.3l-4.8l-5.3l-engines-38311

I have not heard one but spintech's RV muffler is said to be quite. Also something i may try is a muffler from a new truck (08+) are said to flow better yet than ours.

Thanks for all the replies, I still haven't decided which muff to go with but I'll try to post some pics and sound clips when I do

I wouldn't be too concerned about noise. No matter what muffler you get (literally, no matter what one), if it's too loud, it's very easy to install some in-line resonators to make the thing as quiet as stock. Had a flow 40 on my old bronco. A few resonators and a resonated tip and it was back to sounding stock (but still kept the performance gain since resonators are all straight-through.

Good luck!

just throw the stock muffler back on and throw some electric cutouts right after the bullets. that away you can scream wen you want to and creep back in the neighborhood without anyone noticeing

Regardless of whether the muffler or resonators are straight through or not, they do restrict flow some....simply no way you can reduce the sound if you don't. Point being you can put 3 Magnaflos in line and they will cause some restriction. Not saying it is necessarily a signficant restriction but it is there.

For the OP, I know you stated you did not want stock but if you want a quiet high flow muffler this might be the way to go. There is a reason the mufflers on the new trucks are huge because that is the way you can get noise reduction without signficant restrictions.

I can't recommend the Dynomax VTs. Tried them shortly after they came out because they looked good on paper but the performance was pretty poor. The main issue was a very loud clattering sound they made and tried two different sets, and per Dynomax customer service verified they were from different batches based on the production numbers on the boxes. The clattering was so loud people walking down the sidewalk would turn to see what it was and several people stopped me asking what was wrong with the truck. Besides for the clattering I wasn't impressed with the sound as it made some weird "hissing" type sounds at certain throttle inputs.

Funny that this thread popped back up b/c I've been browsing all morning for a quiet muffler. Settled on Walker Quiet Flow but can't make up my mind on case length....they go from 16"-30". Does it matter b/c no matter what the shop will be installing and making adjustments? I know bigger case means less noise but how much noise difference between say a 16" and a 24" case? I don't think I have room for 2 mufflers bigger than that.
