I have have a 97 suburban and i can't seem to get the stock CD player to play any of my burned CD's. Although i have 1 an old friend gave me and it plays just fine for some odd reason. Is there any special settings I have to use to burn CD's that will play in a stock CD player?

there are a lot of factors that go into the answer to this. i know some stock cd players that will play anything, others that play some burned cds and others that dont play any burnt cds. i cant tell you why this is, but its been known to happen.

the one thing that I would tell you to check, as far as computer program settings go, is to make sure that the cd is being finalized. There are some programs that give you the option of keeping it as an open project, and you can go back later to change things, or add files.

it might help to know what computer program you are using to make the cd's. hope it helps!

Just to avoid any confusion, how exactly are you going about burning the cd's now? Beyond what software, what format are the songs in when you start, what settings are you using, etc.? Otherwise, you're probably going to get a number of answers that don't apply or recommendations for software that you don't necessarily need...

I've been using iTunes. With a speed of 12x. Does that help?

I don't have any experience with itunes, but doesn't that burn as a data disc and not digital audio?

I don't know.

I think it's the other way around. iTunes won't burn as data/mp3. In other words you only can put 15ish songs per disc instead of hundreds per disc.
Tbh I don't have the latest iTunes updates though, it may be different now. I've switched to amazon and either way I have an aftermarket that plays multiple variations and really don't use CDs

The one thing you definitely want to do is make sure you aren't burning songs in MP3 format, because I don't think older Audio CD Players will play MP3's. If you are copying CD's with a Computer, the best program to use is Nero in my opinion. It will copy the CD exactly like the Original. It will also allow you to make a CD using different songs from other CD's. It is very easy to use. I would highly recommend it. Just make sure you are not copying the songs in MP3 format. Do you have any other CD-Copying programs on your computer? I am not really familiar with copying CD's using iTunes. But, I have copied several CD's using Nero, as well as MusicMatch Jukebox and they have always worked. Hope this helps.

Try burning at a slower speed. A lot of times CD-Rs that are burned at faster speeds will not play in some CD players. In my Explorer, for example, the first 3 tracks on any CDs I burn at speeds of 12x or higher won't play. Also, make sure that they are burning into a playable format and that you aren't just copying mp3 or some other type of audio files onto the disc.

itunes will burn as mp3 and regular. you can fit about 17-20 songs on a normal CD. OP be sure you arent burning in MP3 format on itunes.

MusicMatch Jukebox
Windows Media Player
Easy CD Creator

are all common programs that give you a ton of options on how to burn

I've used Nero before, but Windows Media Player has been reliable to me for probably 4 or 5 years now.

definitely sounds like an mp3/wav issue

Ya mp3 wont play on older cd players. I know my dad's 01 pathfinder won't play mp3 cds so I highly doubt a 97 suburban can.

Yea, I have mostly used Nero, but Windows Media Player works pretty good as well.

I totally agree with you! I used to use MusicMatch Jukebox for everything. Then it got to where it would freeze up all the time, so I just stopped using it.

In iTunes settings like everyone says and make sure your not in mp3 format and slow down the burn speed to at least 4x for best sound quality. Check the disc you burned in a newer model radio and see if they play, if not then there is another problem. Not being funny but let a teenager at it one with an iPod or iPhone with a lot of music. They may laugh and say "you still using cd's" lol. Get back and let us know what happens and if needed I can go IMHO iTunes later today to give a walk through to check settings.
