Would a locker from an early 90's 10 bolt work in my '01?

I don't know if the locker is the same size or not. The rear end changed from 8.5" to 8.6". I understand that you can swap a complete "center section" with different carrier bearings, but I do not know if the Eaton G80 is the same size.

You might be able to look it up on Randy's Ring & Pinion website and see if the lockers are the same part numbers for an OBS as an NBS. Could also call up your local GM dealer and see if the OEM part numbers are the same.

Looking on randys ring and pinion, it seems that some lockers would work and some won't, guess I'll have to find out what kind of locker it is that my buddy has

best option would be to measure it,personally I think it'd work but always safe to double check

Would require the 8.6's bearings as well IIRC.
