Talk to me about aftermarket antennas

Not looking for anything special. Just hate the big tall stock antenna and the paint is flaking off of it. I'm sure I could repaint it pretty easily, but wondering if any of you have put on a 3", 6" etc aftermarket antenna on the exterior. How did it work? Any issues with reception? Looking for something like the following. Probably just getting something all black, but I suppose if I thought it looked cool, could color match or even do a chrome.

I picked up a 14" all black one that is about that thick with the same adapters for a universal fit and it works just as good as my old ugly stock one. It was $15...and for $10 I'd say it's worth the gamble to test it's reception.

Depending on the model of truck you can do an antenna delete. Basically you unbolt the antenna mount and then mount it laying down under the plastic cowl just behind the hood. Supposedly reception doesn't suffer much, but I've never tried it.

I would only do that if I were able to get rid of the mounting spot. If I were that serious about it, I'd install a sharkfin on the top of the cab. I'll have to think about this a little more.

Yeah, I've certainly wasted more money on stupider things. Hell, my freakin' lunch at Arby's was almost 10 bucks today.
