My last truck an old 1989 K1500 Stepside was rusted out, and showed the years of abuse I had pushed on it. None the less it never failed me and I usually got my firewood out by driving through the woods to it rather than the other way around. Even with 3 tons in the trailer it never complained. Right now my best friend still drives it daily and it still hauls with about 250k on it.
But I don’t haul firewood now. The Marines sent me to Lejeune and the rental we are in now doesn’t even have a fireplace much less the two wood burners I had to feed before. The most hauling I need now is deer, lawnmower, and kids. However, I missed having a truck so much my wife pointed one out for me.
So I got a 1999 Silverado 2500 with the 6.0. With titling in Ohio and ten day tags I haven’t had it on the roads much, but I have driven it enough to say I like it. It rides well, goes off road as well as I need it to, fits the three kids and wife, and has more creature comforts than I need in a truck. I had to hunt down an intake leak, and a loose rocker bolt, but that made the price really cheap and cost me about $2 and some hair pulling to fix.
I would like to say it is perfect, but nothing is ever perfect. Don’t we always want more? In this case I am looking for what people are doing to their trucks like this one. What am I in for in troubles, limitations, and any other information like that? I doubt I’ll be throwing a blower on it anytime soon. Maybe an electric fan though to help with gas mileage would be nice. My old TBI 350 got 22mpg unloaded so I figure this truck might match it someday being 10yrs newer.
So far it has a K&N Kit, flowmaster exhaust, 3" body lift, Flowtech headers, some kind of trailer braking kit, and a 10k hitch, and the top end was redone 10k ago.
Here are some pics for you all:
