I don't know where else to post something like this so here it goes, did alot of you guys on here have to have a crank relearn procedure done after your tune? How long did it take to recieve your tune? What kind of gains did you notice? Thanks for any input, except for deutsche bag remarks.

Haven't had a BlackBear tune myself so can't speak to customer service or performance. Most people on the forum seem to be happy with it, but I think most of the performance data is only seat-of-the-pants measurements.

As for the crank relearn, the answer is: it depends, but not on anything specific to BlackBear. The CASE info is stored in the PCM until new CASE data is learned and is not affected by tuning. So, if you send in your PCM to be tuned, then put the same PCM back in your truck without moving the distributor (& therefore the cam sensor) or the crankshaft position sensor, you do not need to do the relearn. However, any time you're putting a new PCM into your truck--doesn't matter if it's stock or "tuned"--you need to do the relearn, and it should also be done any time you mess with the aforementioned sensors as well. Without the relearn, it may seem to run fine, but there's a good chance you're not getting 100% performance out of it even if it's not throwing codes. Worse, the PCM may be failing to detect misfires because it doesn't have the sensors it needs properly calibrated.

Even if you don't have access to the necessary tuning equipment, CASE relearn isn't a big deal. Once the engine is warm, relearn takes almost no time at all; show up at a shop with a warm engine and a cold 6-pack a bit before closing time and you could probably leave with a relearn.

I had my tune done in person at one of the tuning meets. It wasn't dynoed before or after, so I can't speak to actual gains. Seat of the pants difference, sure. Truck runs smoother, gets a little better mileage. He said it was pinging like crazy, so that was fixed. I only have a CAI and a catback, so no "real" mods. I don't tow anything so he tuned a "sport" mode into the taul/haul button. Cool feature. It's a crew cab with a 4.8 so it's no street terror, but I was pleased.

So youre saying you atleast noticed some sort of positive outcome from the tune on the 4.8? And what octane is your tune? Annnd what gear ratio does your truck have? Im pondering wether or not a tune will be worth it on my 4.8 w/ 3.73s

Yes, I did see some noticeable difference. Justin tuned it for 89 octane. I have the stock gear in the rear. Not sure what it is, 2xx something or other. Justin told me the first thing he would do is change that gear out. I may do that in the future. It's my daily so thats not high on the list.
