I'm looking at a truck for sale locally http://www.ksl.com/index.php?nid=218&ad=19156902&cat=656&lpid=&search=4x4%2085 which I am considering buying to harvest the frame and 4x4 gear for this project http://www.fullsizechevy.com/forum/general-discussion/technical-maintenance/490231-1978-gmc-c1500-four-wheel-drive-conversion.html . I don't know how severe the rust is on the back (I'm having to owner do a push test to see if it's workable) but other than that it seems to be in decent shape. (especially the cab) My thought is to clean up the bed, cab, and fenders and then resell them. When I say clean up, I mean to blast them (I have a blaster, and I need practice before I start on my REAL truck anyways) beat any dents out so they can be filled, use some rust killer on the spots that has it, fill as needed, then shoot with a layer of primer. I think I want to keep the frame my truck has now, but I'm not sure. What do you guys think this would sell for? Lots of folks love these trucks around here, but they're hard to find in good condition (or all primed up and ready to go) around here. It has a transmission that the guy (he talked like a kid when I texted him about the truck) proudly proclaimed was rebuilt by AAMCO. If I sold basically everything in the truck that I don't need to do my body swap, what should I expect? If I put it all back on my frame and get it rolling, what would that do for me? What should I expect if I sold the parts individually? I've never really looked into any of this before because I already have plenty of trucks. (some would say too many) The more specific you can be on price ranges (quotes for your area are welcome too) the better off I am.
How much sand should I expect to use for paint removal per square foot? The frame? What type of media should I use for this? I want something that is cheap either because it's just cheap, or a bag will last a longer time. I read a post by a gentleman who suggested soda, claiming that a 50 pound bag would last him about an hour. Again, whatever is the cheapest route here. I plan on using respiratory and safety equipment, so that's not a factor. Anyways, I've written too much already, so I'll stop now. :D
