I have a 2000 Chevy 2500 ext. cab shortbed 4x4... looks pretty decent on the outside, thats about it though... It has 263xxx miles on it.. and the reverse and 4th gear recently started slipping on the ole 4l80e.. and the 4x4 doesnt work.. when its in 4x4 and you turn or hit the gas hard it binds and grids something aweful.. soo all these problems.. what to do? fix everything ? I can trade for a 1995 z71 ext. cab shortbed.. in good condition with 128xxx miles just isnt going into 3rd due to solenoid.. should i just trade? what do you guys think?
Fix whatever is wrong with the 4x4 and swap in an NV4500 :dunno:
That's what I'd do anyways, unless you just want to get rid of the truck. But I wouldn't trade it for an older truck. jmo

yea, I know i probably shouldn't trade for an older vehicle. Just figured I have no choice with all the problems and mileage on mine.. I always thought 4l80e's were like bulletproof? This is my second one to go out the same exact way first reverse then 4th..? If i had a bench seat truck I would prolly do that swap kirk lol..

Put it this way your truck is probably worth around 4500 give or take some in its current condition. After you spend 2000 give or take some fixing everything your truck would be worth 6 or 7 thousand to the right person.
If you can trade for something in the 5000 range straight up for it I would do it in a heart beat.

I would love to fix it.. but I mean, is it common to have this issue with the 4l80e? Both were from 2000 model trucks so yea.. Idk.. It would suck for the same crap to happen a third time, anyone know any idea of what it cost to get a 4l80e rebuilt with stronger internals?

it depends if you want it just rebuilt or build it up.

yea i was looking at their transmissions the other day.. Now this would be a build up kit? How much does it usually run to get someone to rebuild the tranny if you have the rebuild kit already?
