Can anyone suggest a good cam kit for a Vortec 305. I know I wont get huge power from a 305 in the first place, but I would still like to spruce it up a bit here and there. I would prefer something with a good noticable idle, but I'm still looking at fuel consumption as well. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Noticeable idle comes from a "bigger" camshaft. A "bigger" cam forces the engine to consume more fuel. You really can't have both fuel economy and bigger cam, because more of one compromises the other.
Exactly what do you want more of, fuel economy or choppy idle? Me, I'd build the engine for its purpose, and let the idle do what it wants to.

If you're lookin' for a decent cam, look at something with a powerband starting at 1,500rpm or less... larger will kill mileage. Plus, with a larger cam you would lose streetability you have with the more mild cams.

Idle will be smooth (maybe slightly noticeable, but nothing lopey), but it will run a good deal better. From what I found in a short search it looks like around 191º/196º @ .050", .414"/.428", 111º LSA. The cam I listed is about 20º more on each side, but it won't be too much for a stock drivetrain. I don't have any experience with OBD2 tuning so I don't know what you'll need there.
