Does anyone still put rool bars in the box of their pick up anymore? I want to know that my black 2011 chevy 1500 crew cab 4x4 would look like with a box mounted polished stainless double-bar.

Any one got any pics of a polished stainless double-bar roll bar in an 07 and up pick up?

And what would look better the box mounted type roll or the bed rail mounted type?

I know the bed rail would aloue you to still use all of your box.

Anyone got any pics of a polished stainless bed rail mounted double-bar roll bar on an 07 and up pick up?

I kinda got a soft spot for them myself...but this site tends to be more "modern" in it's preferences.

So I don't expect to get many, if any, positive answers.

I'd hit up JCWhitney and places like that, if a quick Google search doesn't yield any results, then they don't make them.

Yeah I kinda like them too!

Just wondering what would look better box mounter or bed rail mounted?

I like the box mounted ones but if you want to use your box for anything big they can be in the way.

Bed rail mounted would be my choice then. That's the way pretty much every single headache rack is mounted, down through the stake pockets.

My initial instinct was to puke a little. but after some thought...... one, i don't think ive even seen a NBS with a roll bar. I think the "style" went out when 80% of trucks were RC or short EC. i think putting one on a NNBS CC would be pretty nice. as a black truck owner, i would color match the roll bar, id have to vote against lights on the bar. i think color matched dbl tube would look sweet.

I have found some pics on google with some NNBS short box pick ups with roll bars on them and I think it looks ok.

I just wanted to know if anyone had a NNBS with roll bars and if they had any pics that they would show?
And what style would be better box mounted or bed rail mounted?

I don't know, I guess it just depends on the truck...

Yeah its hard to say but I bet they look better on that truck from a better angle, and I think a double would look better as well and if the brace bars came back straight and stopped on the back of the wheel wells they would look a lot better.

There is a few NBS trucks around here with roll bars or similar things.

Go Rhino makes a "Sport Bar" which seems to be what you want...maybe not the exact styling though.

Go Rhino Lightning Sport Bar (http://www.gorhino.com/productsDetails.aspx?id=7460)

Lightning:

Thunder (looks to be on an NNBS too):

They look like they might work for you.

I find they look AWFUL in anything newer than 98. Even then, In an extended cab anything, yuck.

That said, I love mine with it. Unlike the one in the green truck, which fits terrible over the cab, and places the legs in the middle of the box, mine was actually made for my truck and is level with the cab and the legs come down on to the wheel tubs in the box, leaving the entire box open except for two 4" spots in the front corners.

I'd be tempted to box the sides in and make it look like a buggy.

Otherwise, i'm not much of a fan.

Thats no NNBS silly. Thats the new Honda Ridgeline. :puke:

Seriously though. IF you had a 2WD CC prerunner and boxed this in as stated above that be about the only i see this being OK.

CC 4WD, if anything, DBL bar, mounted in the two front corners and bars coming down to top of wheel wells (as stated above) throw a couple 5" offroad lights on it and call it a day.

A friend Of mine thinks that maybe I should go with a roof rack instead of roll bars, something like this.

Now I don't know what to do?

The nnbs bar on the black silverado is the only bar on here that would actually be considered a "roll bar". All the others are actually classified as "show bars". when you go to buy one of those stainless or chrome bars you will see the companies disclaimer stating that they DO NOT sell it to offer protection in the instance of a roll over. They are not constructed to offer crush protection but to Look Good instead. To make an in box roll bar actually do its job it has to have long bars that extend the length of the bed. If not they will buckle under the weight of the truck when it rolls. Especially the piece together ones. It must be fully welded one piece. I think the reason you dont see too many anymore is because if people actually want roll protection they install a cage or exocage. The "roll bar" is not much more than a showpiece now-a-days and its look went out in the 80's. I had one on my truck and when it rolled only onto its side it disinigrated. And it ripped up the bed of my truck. It was a tripple double piece together and proved to be totally useless.

I know what you mean, but to nit-pick the black one just goes to the top of the box sides, it would be less that useless in a rollover.

I understand your point, but....that depends on its mounting system. If it is properly anchored (which it looks to be) It will actually be very effective. If you look in the photo the bars are all tied together by a long piece of angle that runs along the bedrail and is bolted down in multiple places all the way down the bedrail. This makes the structure VERY strong. because not only are the bars footprints spaced out correctly to allow the right displacement of force in a rollover, but the angle is attaching all of them together unlike most "show bar" applications that just bolt into the bed. In a rollover that truck would be very protected, and having all the bars tied together would make it impossible to buckle that bed or pull one of the bars out of its mounting holes. I think unless the truck has a body lift that bar is built top notch, and would do a great job keeping the cab from being crushed.

Yes, but what supports the box side? It's just sheet metal. I can see it either crushing the box, tearing the sides off on a side impact or kinking the long tubes. We should nicely ask the owner to go roll it so we can see what happens
