Well i'm finally getting rid of my tired ol 305. i wish i could say i was going to be doing the work myself, but sadly, i don't have the time, nor the place to do it. It will be going to Bad Ass Speed Shop in jacksonville fl. She'll be getting a mild 350 put in. Hoping for around 350hp with a mild cam and a few other goodies. i'll have more specs to come. Also getting my exhaust redone as my current system looks like a 2 year old designed it. going with an x pipe after the headers into a set of flowmaster super 40's using mandrel bent 2.5" tubing. here's a pic of the truck. thanks for looking.

no..haven't gotten it back yet. she's running a little behind schedule due to some unforseen circumstances. they pulled the motor today and should have the engine bay cleaned up and painted by wed...engine should go in shortly after that. here are some pics...

engine specs? whats done to the cobra?

fenix420
03-18-2012, 08:57 PM
i don't have the spec sheet with me right now..it's just a mild 350 bored .50 over w vortec heads and a mild cam. holly 670 street avenger. nothing too spectacular..but way better than the worn out 305. i don't have the cobra anymore. got rid of it to get my 2010 silverado. but it had a ported blower, pulley, tune, upgraded injectors, bap..upgraded maf. header back exhaust, h&r lowering springs, cc plates. short shifter, clutch quadrant, i took the rear subframe out and changed ALL the bushings out to delrin bushings (including upper and lower ca) upgraded diff cover, cooling mod, and a line lock. 10.5" rear wheels with 315 nitto drag radials.

Love the terminator cars. They are fun from the factory, but with very little modding are simply insane.

went in to the shop today. they fired up the engine on the engine stand and broke in the cam and got everything all dialed in. everything went smooth. she's gonna purr. REALLY hoping i can pick her up this week, as i've decided to sell my 2010.

i remember when i swapped my 305 to my L31 350...then it went to a 383....then a 454 now its a 496 and it has way more then enough power than i will ever use. since you already have the motor out have you considered upgrading the motor mounts..i bought the off road design ones years ago and all i can say is they have been the same set lasting through each motor swap

i don't plan on upgrading them, just replacing them. it's just a street cruiser..i won't be putting gobs of power down.

well...today was a crazy day. On sunday..i put my 2010 on craiglslist..today...i found a buyer for it...can't believe it went that fast. i went in to the shop where the 84 is to tell them i'm about to be without a truck, well the next thing i know i've spent another 1400 bucks!!! lol. it seems like every time i go in there they talk me into adding something else to my build..lol. this time..they talked me into a set of .373's and a posi unit..and a rebuild of the 700r4 with a shift kit and a mild converter. I figured i might as well go for it since everything was already out of the truck anyway.. so it's gonna be a completely different truck when i get it back (which they are hoping for friday, not gonna hold them to that though..the owner just got some pretty bad news) so if all goes well..i will be posting the completed pics up on friday!

basicly if you look at my set up youll see what ive got re engine....like every kid figured cool now l'll spend 1200$ and have a dual set up put on it....well to my dismay it sounded like crap.to loud and lost tourqe....paid another 600$ went back to a single 3in..sounded great and got my tourqe back....just my experience with duals...gotta have alota engine to run duals properly lm thinkin

sounds like you had other issues if you REALLY noticed any torque loss....but thank you for your thoughts ;)

Has to do with scavenging anx exhaust velocity... he is completely accurate. No reason for duals on a mild enginr.

i understand how exhaust works..an i understand what he was getting at. but the torque loss from going to a dual 2.5" system is minimal..and if you're REALLY noticing that..like "seat of the pants" noticing that...then there are other issues...either that..or your butt dyno is REALLY dialed in...not to mention it already had duals on it anyway..it was just poorly designed

thanks! i can't either! should be done by tom...everthing but the rear end that is. The guy doing the rear end won't be able to get to it by tom..and i really need the truck back, so we're just gonna set up a day next week for me to bring it in since it's a job that i can sit there and bs while it's getting done. here's a couple of teaser pics..and one of another project that they built..and piloted... OH...and they ran into a problem with the holley street avenger that was gonna go on it. had some stumbling issues..swapped on one of the quick fuel 650cfm's and it ran like a champ...they are trying a different holley...but if it still has the stumbling issues..i told them to just put the quick fuel on there...who needs gas mileage anyway right? lol

well...she's done for the most part. still gotta get some tail pipes bent and iron out a few small things..but im driving it now..breaking it in and putting miles on it to see how if anything else needs to be done. which i can already tell i'm gonna have to upgrade the starter...the added compression and the heat are gonna make quick work of this one i think.. the truck drives great! sounds great..the flowmaster x pipe and super 40's sound really good..and looks great! lol. it shifts like a madman..and the .373's REALLY woke it up! i'll have the full specs on it later..in a hurry right now. anyway..here's a completed pic...

well i was going for the old school look like the '69 camaro's..and from the back..i kinda like it..it's the side view that just irks the crap outta me..i was also tossing around the idea of pushing the mufflers a little forward and running the pipes out before the rear tires with a chrome tip...but i don't know...

i havent had a problem turning over anytime...for some odd reason it sounds like it spins it faster when its warm, if you buy it you will see what im talking about

i even put 15w40 in my truck over the winter (long story short i had to replace my oil pan and it was the only oil available on the farm) and even with it being 2 or 3 degrees that starter didnt even struggle to turn that motor over
