I just picked up a 1978 Chevy 3/4 ton 4x4 manual trans. I believe its a K20? Can somebody tell me how to adjust the steering box and the clutch?

I had a '79 with that tranny. The clutch should be operated by a lever that is actuated by a threaded rod coming off the clutch pedal. To adjust it, just adjust the length of the threaded rod until you're happy with the way the pedal feels. As far as adjusting the gear box, if it has a lot of play, just get a new one. And when you're upfront doing all that stuff, make sure inspect the frame where the steering box attaches extremely well; it's prone to cracking. If it's cracked, while the steering box is off, just weld a piece of plate to the frame and it'll be fine. I do believe there's an actual kit for that, although I've no idea who makes it. Hope this helps!

OK, before adjusting the steering box, inspect all the steering components, the rag joint, the tie rod ends, the centerlink and don't forget the ball joints and the control arm bushings. You'll need someone to rock the steering wheel back and forth while you observe the linkages and other pieces, make sure the steering column is unlocked before doing this operation. Good luck and let us know.
