Pretty much what the title says. The truck's 1998 K1500 with the 5.7l 350 pretty much stock motor, have the stock 10bolt with 3.73s, stock leafs out back, and new shocks. i think the blazer weighs about 3800lbs trailer is a double axle weighs about 2200lbs. So will my truck be able to tow it about 360 miles to the badlands and back home?

With how light a blazer is I would say yes. behind my 97 I had my 94 (5,600lbs) on a double axel car hauler (not sure on weight) it did fine as long as I took it out of OD on the hills(3.42 gears)

Just make sure you are still legal for weight (which you should be) and you have trailer brakes.

im renting a trailer from uhaul. so idk if its got trailer brakes or not. i don't have a brake controller. didn't know i needed trailer breaks but probably should get some  maybe a little easier on my truck

Depending on your state laws you might not LEGALLY need them but they are always recommended. In Mn I believe its any trailer with a GVW of 2,000+ needs to have brakes

You'll be good... Uhaul car haulers have surge brakes, no controller needed

Just my .02 cents, dad lives in Illinois, and hes got a 1990 Chevy RCLB Z71, all stock except he put 1 add a leafs in the back when he bought it, and he drove clear up to Montana not to long after and picked up a John Deere Model B with a loader on the front and brought it back. It was a day drive up there and a day drive back and his truck did just fine with it loaded down for that long.

Make sure your reciever is rated for at least 6klbs (plenty of Class III's are only 5klbs).

Same for drawbar and ball, most off the shelf stuff at parts stores is only 5klbs, some being 6klbs. Proper draw bars can be rated beyond 15klbs.

Going for at least 10% tongue weight, you are looking at around 600lbs on the tongue, so expect some squat. Bump your rear tires to max sidewall inflation spec to ensure they are at max load capacity.

Keep an eye on the TCC cycling, if it does, drop to 3rd to keep the load of your trans, and trans temps down.

10-4. I don't remember what class hitch it is. I think it's either a III or IV. Ill have to check. As far as the ball i no clue what the rating is on it. but thanks for the help bro :cheer:

Read the top of the ball, it should say size and weight rating.

Yep, or stamped in the drop portion of the draw bar. IMO, if you can't read it anymore due to rust/wear/whatever, it's probably time for a new one with a known weight rating.

thats the lower of the two ratings on the receiver too doubt if the uhaul has weight dist.

yeah, as long as the tow setup is rated for it, the rest of the truck should pull that reliably

Great that it's new, but what's it rated at?

x2 on finding out the weight ratings of your hitch/drawbar/ball setup... I've bent things more than once... they're not all made as heavy as you might think.

you definitely want to know the rating of you receiver one of my friends used his truck to haul mine back when it died and after hitting the interstate my truck and his trailer tried to pass us not a fun experience. He had a half ton i had an one ton a lot heaver than a blazer but it worth checking.

the ball says 2000lbs and the hitch itself is a class V

2000lbs? WTF? If that's right, throw it out.

Should be 2 specs total weight capacity and tongue weight capacity. If that is 2klbs tongue weight, that is one hell of a beefy draw bar.

Class V is nice.

the ball it self says 2000 lbs and the drop says 6000 total and tongue as 800

You should be fine. Most of those U-haul trailers are aluminium,so they don't way much.Just make sure you get it sitting right.Trailer should sit pretty level.Your truck should be down a few inches.Just drive easy till you get the feel of it,and you'll be fine.

Sounds like a skinny shank ball put in a decent receiver. :nono:

I towed my CJ8 on a 16 foot utility trailer without brakes. And my truck is a TBI V6 and I went up and some decent hills and curvy roads. I bet your blazer weighs about as much as my Jeep and I know those uhaul trailers are really light. And with about twice the power my truck has, your truck should be completely fine.

Towing heavier loads without brakes is just irreresponsible.
U haul traielrs have surge brakes, so you are good. make sure your hitch, ball and reciever are rated for it.
