Ive been on this site for a few months now and love it so far but havent started a thread of my progress so I figured i would start, i bought 1990 silverado in October 2010 for 1200 bucks i believe, and it was a plain Jane old truck with a v6 that was wore out at the time
The day I bought it

http://img.tapatalk.com/a6cd0890-4277-3456.jpg
After driving it around for a month or so I knew that v6 wasn't enough for me so I found this rebuilt 350 that wasn't nothing special but better then the v6

http://img.tapatalk.com/a6cd0890-4325-ff70.jpg
After the motor was in I slowly started doing body work with a roll pan, light bar and pulling the trim off slowly,

This truck is my daily driver now so it takes time to get things done to it but it's coming along and I'm starting on the interior now which I don't have pictures yet but I'll try to get some later today if I can, and I have some 15x10 wheels for it that I need to get tires for and I'm going with a 2/4 drop in the next few months hopefully,, I'll keep you guys posted with my progress, tell me what you guys think of it so far,
Thanks for looking

Here's a few of the interior I took today, sorry for the crappy pictures, it was a bright day and my phone wouldn't adjust, but my interior is getting done in black and white, it's starting to look good, just need to finish the passenger door panel and the carpet,

Hey I have a small update, I have a new performer intake and accel distributor to put in my truck, I'm hoping for some pretty good gains since I have a single plain street master intake on it now, which is a terrible intake to have,

What kind of shifter are you using?
It was out of a 84 camaro, and I added a 9 inch extension so it wasn't so low, it looks a little goofy to some people but it's pretty fun to drive

It looks good, but the only thing that throws off the front end is the painted fascia. I think it looks better black.

I have a question for you guys, I'm putting some 15x8s on the front and 15x10 in the rear, what would be a good tire size for them, my truck use to have the wheels on there but the tire size was off and I'm not 100% sure what to go with
http://img.tapatalk.com/a6cd0afe-19fb-0c08.jpg

I'm wanting to change my rear end out or just re gear it, which is easier?? I wouldnt think just putting some 3:73 gears wouldn't that hard but I've never done it before so I was wondering if anyone had any advice, and also what are the spline count of the axle shaft was, thanks in advance guys

Yes it has a dent in the bumper and the mount is bent lol, I haven't messed with it, I'm looking at a paintable smooth bumper and wanting to paint the hole front white to match the truck, but I haven't decided fully on that

I need some help on trying to decide what to do, ok I have these autometer gauges (speedo, tach, fuel gauge, temp) and I'm not forsure if I want to put them in my truck or not, there's a guy on this site that has done it (mosthated89) and it looks awesome , the only issue is the speedo is mechanical and my moonie speedo is electric isn't it??? How would I go about this and fixing? I think it would make it stand out If I could do it

I like how it looks so far, still have tons to do but I'm hopping to order my 4/6 drop this weekend and get all that done, I'll keep u guys posted on my progress as I get it done

Nice ride. I have an 89 that I'm getting ready to start on. How did you mold in the roll pan? Is it holding up good?
87montecarlomrc
05-20-2012, 02:13 PM
Thanks man, the 1st time I did the roll pan I used a thin coat of fibererglass and thin coat of Bondo but it didnt hold up very long, the 2nd time I used more fiberglass to make it tougher and I made some bracing for it and its working out good so far, I dont have any recent pic of it done

I worked on my ac this weekend, had to go buy a new condenser but its nice having ac, makes it nice to drive, I also did a good tune on it and I'm getting around 14 mpg which isn't bad for about 70% city and 30% highway and being carb'd,

Drop fits it well. Are you sticking with those wheels and tires or are you going a different route?
87montecarlomrc
06-05-2012, 06:40 PM
I think I'm going to stick with these wheels till maybe I can find some other 15" cause I like the old school look with the wide tires, everyone in my town has the 20's or 22's and they all look the same, I'm wanting to be different for now
87montecarlomrc
07-06-2012, 10:15 PM
Well I ordered my drop kit today, I was going to go with a 4/6 drop but the tires are to Wide in the rear so i went with a 3/4 and will possibly take out the bottom leaf spring if Its still to high, I hope it will soften my ride alittle if I take a leaf out because it rides so rough and hard now,
Ill probly put the kit on in about 2 or 3 weeks and will paint the frame while Im at it,
Ill post pictures of my progress

I did one, my tailgate is warped bad. I think when I try again i'm going to use the new epoxy panel adhesive instead of welding to reduce the risk of warping the gate. It's a long flat surface to get looking right.

Well today I tested some paint I had laying around, and the one I like is a metallic silver, I painted a spot and cleared it, it's nothing crazy but it's a pretty color, tell me what you guys think

What brand hood is that? I have a reg style steel cowl but may need the extra clearance underneath of the one you posted. Looks good

I'm not forsure on the brand, it doesn't have any name on it or anything, I've tried to look up pictures but I haven't been able to find any similar, it is a fiberglass bolt on that's really light

looks good man I have a 91 chevy thats a work in progress may post some pics. but i had a question wondering if you know anything about carbs i see you have a holley but i have an edelbrock 750 with an edel torker intake, but im experiencing popping through the carb with quicks snaps of the throttle not sure if its timing. i like those seats does it make you sit any lower.

I dont recall when it started doing it but it was hard to start when it was warm and i didnt have a timing light so i just moved it back some. and when i finally got a timing light i checked it and it was around twelve but it was takin its time to start once it warmed up but it was popping then so i moved it down to 8 degrees and still popping. not sure on the complete cam specs but took it to the machine shop and the lift is .488. im not sure if its because i dont have a stall or something wrong with the timing or carb but when i drive it and go to pull off it tries to cut off i kinda half to floor it. what do you recommend the timing should be at. thanks for the help. when are you going to put the engine in? did you ever think about 295/50/15 and then lower it a little more?
87montecarlomrc
02-10-2013, 09:15 AM
I would say put the timing at 8 degrees but since its already there u can always try and go to 6 and see how that does, are you unplugging your vacume advance when your timing it?

would i be losing anything like performance or gas milege going to 6 degrees or is it normal to go that low. thanks for the help. my electric water pump burnt up so i had to order new water pump front asembly so maybe it will be in tomorrow and i can mess with the timing. if it stops popping at 6 degress would there be something wrong. motor looks good by the way.

got my new motor and stuff for my water pump yesterday but it was raining so couldnt get nothing done went out there today and managed to get it put on. started the truck and hooked the vacuum for the dist back up and sprayed some carb cleaner around intake and carb and didnt get anything that i could tell but i noticied when revving quick and it pops if i hold it the popping stops it like it catches up. not sure if that would be distributor or carb or something. it doesnt pop if i gradually press the throttle. wasnt able to take cap off distributor to look for anything started raining. anyone know what it could be should i buy a new dist. thanks

Your truck sounds good man, but I would say it's still to far advance just by a few degrees or maybe your carb is to big

Could you tell what it was doing? It may be the carb I hope I can try my father in laws 600 edelbrock this weekend. It may not be a pop its like its not getting enough or too much gas when it goes to seconderies or something. I dont think its internal or atleast not but when i put the cam in I put a double roller in with it. I would like to figure it out. Is it normal for carbs to do that? Would vortecs help if I kept the same carb. Would too much gas cause backfire instead of what im experiencing. Is it that the engine is getting to much air but shouldnt the secs be vacuum and only pull what it needs? sorry for all the questions. thanks for the help.
