2007 Silverado (New Body Style) Stereo is QUIET...help!

I just bought a used 2007 extended cab Silverado and never really tested out the radio much until after I bought it. It doesn't have Bose which I know is a big factor but when I turn the volume up to full blast. you can still basically have a regular conversation with the person sitting next to you. You can't hear the stereo at all when you are riding down the street with the windows down! Anyone have any clues at all? I have no idea where to start because I'm not sure if this non-Bose system even has a factory amp
