Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs), already used in electrical equipment such as computers and mobile phones, are several times more energy efficient than standard light-bulbs. However, because of their structure and material, much of the light in standard LEDs becomes trapped, reducing the brightness of the light and making them unsuitable as the main lighting source in the home.
Now researchers at the University of Glasgow believe that, by making microscopic holes on the surface of the LEDs, they have found a way of introducing a new generation of LEDs into households that are brighter and use even less power than standard energy efficient light-bulbs. . . . more

Bought this light with an intex easy set pool (18x48 round). Hard to believe how simple it is to set up and how bright it actually is at night. Once it gets dark, the whole pool actually appears to glow. You can see easily from one end to the other. The light output is comparable to any 50+ watt system out there. The best part about it is the fact that there are no electrical wires or connections under water. The side that goes in the water is sealed with magnets to help it hold on to the outer portion through the liner. If it does happen to come apart, the sealed portion in the water floats to the surface. Really nice! The LED should be long lasting also. Overall I am very satisfied with it. I got it on sale for about $49.99. The only reason I am not giving it 5 stars is because it is still new and I don't know how long it will last (I'm new to Intex and am still unsure about quality).

I am SO disappointed in this light! We only used it at night, and unplugged it after every use to preserve the bulb. I'm not sure what happened. But I am not happy at all!
