I am putting this engine http://www.jegs.com/i/GM+Performance/809/12530282/10002/-1 in my 1990 Chevy K1500 4x4.

The engine will be delivered Monday. I was trying to settle on a choice of headers. I was thinking of these http://www.jegs.com/i/Patriot+Exhaust/737/H8059/10002/-1 . I am a novice at this and I was trying to figure out what I need to order to run the exhaust from the headers to the muffler. I know I can find cat back systems all day but what do I look for to cross over and join up to run the exhaust (single) on out to the catback.

I saw this kit that looks like it would work for me but it is not long tubes. It also appears to have two o2 sensor bungs. Why is that??? http://www.jegs.com/i/Hedman/500/69470/10002/-1 Do I need to install o2 sensors in both places??? Can that be done???

I don't know that I really need long tubes, I was just trying to do a good job on the exhaust while I was dealing with it. Maybe I should stick with the more complete Headman kit due to my limited knowledge.

Hope this is not to vague. Any input will be considered.............Thanks, Kent

There is a long tube header that crosses over at the stock location. I think it's a hooker brand but not for sure. The one on the driver side 90 degrees towards the passengerside right at the bottom where the collector starts. Regular longtubes continue on about 8 inches past the stock y pipe location.

With long tubes you can't cross over at the stock location. You would have to drop down about 4 inches and cross right in the middle of the tranny oil pan.
Most people run straight down the driver side and cross over at the end of the transfer case to the passenger side due to the gas tank being in the way on the driver side.
From there you go y pipe or xpipe tto muffler and so on.
I don't know if the ypipe or xpipe being that far back in the system looses any benefits of scavenging. I would like to know the answer to that one.

Good luck and post pics when you're done.

Oh I forgot, if you have more than 1 o2 bung location just plug the one you don't use.
Your o2 senser should be in the y or x pipe so you get exhaust from both banks.

Maybe someone else will chime in with their experiences. I have most of my components and am looking at doing an exhaust also. So I've researched this some.

Thank you pima for helping out. I will keep kicking ideas around until I actually get to the point of needing to install the exhaust. Again, thank you for helping................Kent

the vortec 5.7 has an o2 sensor in each manifold, so if u want longtubes, just order pacesetter 70-2260, thats the ones you need, without egr, i think the 70-2262 has egr, but not positive, check their website....on my old hoe, i ran single 3" exhaust, and i clamped the 3 x 2.5" reducers onto the header collectors, and then had the muffler shop run dual 2.5", the drivers side crossed over to the pass. side right behind the oil pan, basically under the front of the driveshaft, and into a magnaflow dual 2.5" to single 3" Y, then straight back into a magnaflow 4x9x18 muffler
