Steering Wheel Control Lights Out

Is there a way to replace the controls or the lights on the steering wheel in a 2005 Silverado? I think out of the 12 or so control buttons I have there's only 2 lights that light up anymore. I'm kind of thinking this is no easy thing to do but would love an answer!

i just replaced the ac heater control $160.00, steering wheel controles $100.00, light dimmer switch $60.00 and had my speed cluster rebuilt $150.00 all the lights are on again on my 2004 2500 hd not to bad

I just want to know how they are replaced and I'll end up doing it myself probably. Your gauge cluster wasn't under warranty? Mine was and so is that blower motor regulator if thats what you had replaced.

I can tell you how mine were replaced...under warranty at the dealership.

Most of mine are now out as well on my '06. My buddy just replaced his on his '03 GMC, and he said he carefully popped them out with a very small screwdriver. He said it wasnt hard at all.

Z71 tahoe forum has a good write up. Two options. Pop out switch & replace whole unit or replace bulb which requires soldering & such.

No problem, that was actually kinda hard to find, but I got some lights out to so I needed it also. The English sucks but the pictures are what really help.

Any idea what size the bulbs are?

I have no idea, I got some with the stepper motors I ordered off ebay. I think I remember someone saying they found a bulb that was similar at radioshack.

I think I will just replace the entire unit. They are for sale on ebay for like $95. Half the paint is worn off of mine as it is.

yup you can get those bulbs at radio shack. i replaced a whole bunch in my 2000 gmc sierra when i bought it. the radio shack part # is 272-1154

#272-1092 has long wires and no base to it those might work better.

yes you can buy just the individual buttons and replace them. just pop on out. common problem do it all the time on the clock at my dealer.
