hey y'all, I have a 2011 black silverado z71 extended can with the 5.3l v8. it currently sits bone stock and I was looking to change that. I was wondering what exhaust system I should look into in order to get a little hp gains and make it sound a little tougher. I don't want it loud and popping because IMO that doesn't sound good to me, just something deep and satisfying when you get on the gas a little. on my old truck I had a single in dual out flow master super 44 muffler and I liked the sound but I'm not sure if I want it quite that loud. also I'm not looking to change out the whole system, I might consider new cats IF it doesn't void the warranty. lastly, could
anyone inform me on the warranty issues with exhaust work? thanks guys.

If you are worried about warranty just leave the cats alone and do a cat back system, I liked my magnaflow on my '08. New cats wont flow any better anyway.

alright thanks for the reply, in your opinion, do you think I would be satisfied if I went with the magnaflow cat back system? and how did the exhaust do with the active fuel management? does it sound weird switching to v4? also, there's a guy around here that will install everything with dual stainless tips for 300 cash. is this a bad deal, or is it decent? thanks.

What mufflers is he using? Yes, I was satisfied with my Magnaflow. I was coming from trucks with straights (no mufflers) so I was worried it would be too quiet, but I really liked it. It didn't sound bad at all in 4cyl, you could tell a difference but it didn't sound bad.

Flo Pro makes a nice exhaust not to loud. In your cab you can still talk but makes a nice hummm.

Just about everybody says this ! Not picking on ya just using your post as an example.
Every YouTube clip of exhaust I've clicked on its the same thing ; somebody sets up a camera 15-25 ft behind the vehicle , walks over fires it up then guns the engine. They need to take off , drive away ,do some drive- bys . Just like on bikes they sit there and gun it ! Most sound like $hiit that way. popping ,hollow sounding...
Like when ya pull up along side another truck (in our case) ya see dual exhaust coming out the back/side etc , ya kinda stay back just abit to hear it at idle. Then when the light turns and they take off ya listen to it and at the next light if ya can get along side them and ask what exhaust they have.
Coarse no matter what it sounds like ya need to start off by "Hey your exhaust sounds awesome what are ya running for exhaust ? any other mods"?
I have done that so many times and most around here have said Flowmaster single in dual out , I have yet to ask anybody and get a I'm running a " Magnaflow" answer ??!
If I knew I would get improvement at all I would replace the stock octopus air intake tube (already have a K&N drop in filter) with an Airaid Jr tube and do a cat back dual exhaust on my 08 extended 5.3 ! But I don't want to throw away money just for a little sound difference without any gains..
I know when I did a cat back flowmaster single in dual out straight out the back with 4in tips , TB spacer , K&N drop in filter , took the restricted hour glass plastic piece out of the air intake tube , that made a heck of an improvement on my 92 5.7.
Both on awesome sound ,and more over all noticeable seat of pants dyno and picked up 1.5 mpg. I really noticed a nice jump in power in the mid range .
I would get a thumbs up , and had all kinds of people asking me what exhaust I was running. I honestly think the 4 in tips made it sound better.
I've seen so many tailpipe tips same size as the exhaust or maybe 1/2-1in bigger tips and they just don't have that deep rumble sound?
Curious to know who has done the cat back , replaced the stock intake tube and filter and if ya noticed any gains at all ?

On that truck, no you will not notice any gains. On my '08 I did the cat back magnaflow and first a K&N cold air intake and then a GM performance cold air intake...never again, it did nothing.

I have LT's, cats, and a 3" y pipe on my 5.3...my Spintech 6000 is actually pretty tame at idle and cruising but when you get in on it, it really screams. That's the way way most people want their exhaust...you can also get a Spintech a little bit more quiet. The 3000 or 5000 are more quiet than the 6000, now that I hear the 5.3 with a Spintech I really won't recommend anything else. Everyone I've convinced to go Spintech doesn't regret their decision one bit

I do! On my truck with no cats it is WAY too loud. What do you have for cats? I would like to figure out if I can use my LT's with some aftermarket cats, right now I am using a Borla XR-1 as a resignator just to tame it down but that has it just a bit too quite for my taste.

I put a dual rear exit Corsa dB system on my 11 5.3 and love it, sounds like a truck without being obnoxious.

Looks like there's two of us that went the magnaflow-K&N cai route. I wanted the magnaflow because it seems like everyone is running flows. My wife is the primary driver of the pickup and the magnaflow doesn't bother her one bit (suprisingly). All I did was just put the magnaflow in place of the stocker but kept the stock exit for more of a sleeper look. If I'm paying attention I can hear the motor go from 8 to 4 cylinders but to someone who didn't know what to listen for it is practically not noticable. I have a buddy that had a full flow system on a charger and he told me the 8 to 4 transistion on it was brutal, actually sounded like a 4 banger. That being said, Spintech and Corsa's are definately something I'd be interested in. I'm all for anything that doesn't drone me out of the cab.

I just ordered a DB (Corsa no drone truck line) system, bolt on with replacement muffler and 3" piping throughout. I couldn't stand the stock exhaust sound when accelerating and I had heard this line of exhausts on an F-150 and fell in love. Got mine from autoanything.com and got 15% off for being a first time customer!
I believe it was $560 and some change after the discount for the single exit system.

Don't know exactly what your looking for but any magnaflow muffler will have a deep rumble, Also the bigger the tip the deeper it sounds.
